I think both places would be fine. Albufeira is closer to the airport than Lagos but both are within your one hour limit. Know what you mean about reading through resort reports, but it might help to look at some photos of the Old Town in Albufeira and beaches here.

Lagos and Albuferia are chalk and cheese with Lagos being much quieter. However the transfer from Faro can take an hour or mor depending what the other hotel drop-offs are.

Transfer time airport to Albufeira average 40 minutes, to Lagos at least an hour, more if there are people to be dropped off before you.

Come to Albufeira. Don't forget Easter is mid-April this year, so there will be a lot of people about including the many Portuguese who take their holidays here.

Lagos is far more quiet than Albufeira. But both are great.

If you don't want your transfer to take longer than an hour, regardless of which resort you decide, it would be
better for you to book a direct (private) transfer, because as someone else has mentioned, if you get a shuttle
service although much cheaper, you could end up on the bus for quite some time depending on where the other
pick ups/drop offs are.
