Yes, unfortunatley for you there are fish in the sea around Bodrum :rofl

Sorry to disappoint you, but there are probably millions of them :rofl

I am sure the Fishermen will do their best to get some of them removed and supplied to the local restaurants.

lukee0705,

I wouldn't panic too much, the saltiness of the water in that part of the Med / Aegean limits fish populations. The population up towards Bodrum is probably slightly better than Marmaris / Icmeler, but I wouldn't say it's vastly different. There's nothing big to worry about! Having dived in those water for a number of years, it actually gets quite boring seeing lots of rocks and odd wrasse, bream etc. It's the fireworms you have to watch out for. The fish won't do you any harm :rofl I can't say I've ever been bitten by a fish and I'm in water on a weekly basis, daily in some months of the year! You'll soon be forgetting about the fish when the temperatures hit 40C and you're wanting a cooling dip. Just relax, have a lovely time (it's great diving off the top deck, you can make a much bigger splash in full scuba gear though!) and don't worry about Nemo and his friends.

If you stand still in the water then the small fish will swim about your feet and legs and quite possibly have a wee sook ,especially as ellie said at blisters and any sort of scab over a healing cut ,but if you keep moving the fish will be more scared of you .I remember once being out on a boat trip from Marmaris when the skipper took us to feed and see the schoals of Mullet ,as they were being fed at one side of the boat i decided to go for a swim over the other side .Well some young kid threw his bread out my side and i was surrounded by thousands of mullet ,now that was kinda scary. :yikes

You'll find photos of them here. They are flat worms which are called fire worms becuase if you touch them, your skin feels like it's on fire. They are nice to observe, but painful if you brush past them. You'll generally find them in rock areas away from the shoreline but I have seen them while snorkelling, not just diving. I can post video footage from my diving trips if you'd like to see them.

That would have been around the fish farm would it Peter? to the north-west of the bay? It's quite good fun being in the water with them!

A couple of video's for you. The first one is diving in and around Icmeler / Marmaris to give you an idea of the fish population, or lack of! The only place you get dense populations is where boats congregate and feed them. I can only publish 5 minute clips because of bandwidth restrictions and they are hightly compressed so the quality is reduced. You get the idea though (click on the Fireworm to play!):

This is what you call a proper fish population and real diving!

...... yes, they are sharks (Black Tip and Nurse!)

Thanks for that look under the sea. I am trying to pluck up the courage to do some diving. Did some snorkling last year.

Wow Darren that is really interesting, I never knew there were fireworms about! It looks so lovely swimming under the water like that with the fish.

Lukee, if you don't like fish in the water then definitely don't go to Antigua :rofl

Plenty of fish around Bodrum.

After lunch at the Yasmin Bodrum three years ago, we would take some bread and sit on the end of the short wooden pier and feed the fish. Great to watch and received a free pedicure after the bread ran out ;)
