Hey!
I'm in dire need of some sunshine and fancy a week in Turkey, prob beginning of June. I've never been to Turkey before and have no idea of where to go and where to avoid. After my last holiday on my own being stuck on the side of a mountain in a hotel full of couples that didn't even speak to each other let alone randoms on their own I'm hoping for somewhere a bit more fun!
Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers!
Gumbet is a livelier resort, lots of bars and restaurants, whilst Bitez is more laid back. I spent a holiday alone in Bitez and it was really nice, I found lots of people to talk to and I felt happy just laying on the beach during the day. I lived in Gumbet for a few years and I was quite happy spending time wandering about on my own there too while my husband was at work. I also know a lot of girls who have been there on holiday on their own and had a great time - sorry, I am assuming you are a girl??
Anyway if you want to know anything else please just ask.

the turkish people are very friendly and will make a fuss of you and will happily chat to you, if you are a female then i would avoid the very busy resorts as you might get a bit more attention than you want, unless you are happy with that, but the medium resorts should be fine, have a good holiday
A bar I could recommend is Cheers - the motto is "where friends meeet every summer" and that's so true. It's a real friendly place - we have made so many friends that we see every year through going in there.
Of course there are loads of other places that are great in Turkey as well. June's a lovely time to visit - we visit Gumbet five or six times a year and we always go in June for one of our visits (6 June this year for a fortnight). It's not too hot but the weather is lovely.
Anyway, if you tell us a little bit more about yourself, maybe you will get recommendations to suit you.
sorry didn't even think to include any details about me (sorry a bit ditzy!) Well I'm female, 32 prob act younger than I am but don't really want to be surrounded by hoards of youngsters as groups of screeching teenagers isn't really my thing :-(
I've traveled a fair bit on my own so not phased that easily. I'd like somewhere not to far from a nice beach, maybe with a pool, nothing too quiet, prob going to go self catering as there is nothing worse than walking into the hotel restaurant every night feeling like nobby no mates on your own :-)
Thanks all for the tips so far, much appreciated! Getting excited already and I've not even booked!!
I am more than happy to wander around this resort on my own and have never felt intimidated by anyone.
The locals are very friendly and many of them have worked in the resort for a lot of years.
Have a look at the Hisar hotel in hisaronu near fethiye (there are two hisaronu's). Lots of reviews for it. We stayed last sept/oct and the place was amazing, great views, friendly staff the hotel leads out into the main high street so plenty of places to look, shop or eat. We found everybody staying there very friendly and lots of people we spoke to it was their 9th+ time of staying there. There was a mixture of singles and couples, definately not a club 18 -30 type place. In fact I am thinking of taking my first solo holiday there in June as I feel so safe. They do have self catering rooms but you wouldnt feel like nobby no mates as everyone is so friendly restaurant in the hotel fabulous and overlooks the street. You can catch the dolmus outside the hotel and get to olu deniz beach, very beautiful. Across the road to the Hisar is a hair and beauty salon, we all had manicures and pedicures in the evening and some had their hair done, it was open till late. with silly cheap prices. Wherever you decide to go you will have a brilliant time, turkey gets inside your heart.....ooh! I feel all slushy now just thinking of the place.

Some of the owners of our apartments have been on their own and have been quite comfortable doing so. It is relatively safe in the resorts, as the authorities crack down hard on any bad behaviour or street crime.
Where ever you choose have a lovely time!
I would really reccommend the Villa Beldeniz Hotel in Olu Deniz, smallish hotel (about 30 rooms), great freindly staff who work very hard all day.
Rooms are very nicely furnished, pool is just about right and doesn't get too crowded either.
Hotel is in an excellent location, about 5mins walk to the shops/ bars and about 10-15mins slow walk to the beach where you can just laze all day and watch the paragliders come down from the mountains around you. Perfect.
Cheers
PS - if you want me to send you the link to view the hotel then i can private message you plus also tell you who sells the accommodation as there isn't many that do out of the accommodation suppliers here in the UK.
If you are interested in this resort, I do know of a couple of s/c that I could recommend and a very good transfer company (Hubby and I have used both on several occasions). Feel free to pm
Wherever you go just make sure you have fun.

Id suggest Kusudasi because its like a big city, theres loads to do, like the castle and the many shops. Its nice and lively, but not 18-30!
Id definitly recommend Icmeler!
its not too lively but theres enough going on! any person whether in a group or on the own can walk around and feel completely safe. also there are so many friendly people around to make friends with! with marmaris not too far you can enjoy at night out there which is lively with plenty more clubs and bars etc But icmeler is probably the perfect place for you there are loads of hotels/apartments you can pick from through searching the internet. The turkish are so friendly but in Icmeler i feel they give you that extra special bit of attention alot more than marmaris!
Enjoy whereever you pick, you will find it magical!
let us know where you finally pick!
Icmeler girl
