You should have scoured Google - this came out top of the list!

Given that this was only 8 weeks ago I'm guessing the court hasn't ruled yet.

Excellent posting Steve, one wonders what the outcome will be, if successful the Portuguese government will have a lot of money to pay out to non resident owners. It will be like Spain & the capital Gains Tax thing of which they have had to pay back to thousands of pounds to non resident owners when they sold their properties in certain years. Hope you dont mind but I have posted this info on 3 other expat forums.

Don't get too excited, the ECJ isn't renowned for instant decisions - my money would be 3-4 years before anything comes of it.

Well yes Steve, I think it took 3/4years for the EU to sort out the CGT thing in Spain. Got used to not getting over excited about anything time wise that happens in Portugal," I'll come tomorrow" can mean a week, can be frustrating but you just have to grin and bear it.

Anyone wanting fiscal representation try tax angels, they are based in Vilamoura, website is http://www.portugaltax.com The good thing about them is they charge per couple and not per person like other company's do. If you own a property in both names lots of fiscal reps charge you in separate names, hence two bills.

Excellant news, especially as my fiscal rep, has not yet bothered to pay this years rates, or responded to any communication. This means that next time I am out there, I will have to take my green fiscal card and get this resolved. No doubt I will have to pay a fine and interest on the late payment.

I wish that I were confident enough in Portuguese to actually complain to any governing body about this accountant!

Taff, do you know where I can pay this in Tavira?

cheers

Richard.

At the Camara building. If you cross the foot bridge from Bishops Square on your left after the "bandstand" type place you will see a big building on your left. (Usually old men chatting and newspaper sellers are to be found outside) Turn immediate left after this building and left again and you will come to the entrance to the part where you go to pay your taxes.

Hope that helps

Taff.
