hi
i have posted before we go to naples in may - staying in sorrento 2 nights and then scala(near ravello ) - we were hoping to avoid car hire but i think the travelling will cost a fortune if we don't. I have been warned not to hire a car - has anyone ever done it ? how was it ? both hotels have free parking , what is parking like generally ? can we go to pompeii etc by car ? are the roads really mad ?
we have driven in italy before florence pisa etc - sorry to be apain but i need advice

If you want a reasonably-priced hired car, try Holiday Autos in the UK and pay before you arrive in sterling. The Amalfi corniche road is supposed to be tense driving, but if the driver keeps his/her cool, and doesn't get distracted by the lovely views, s/he should manage it unscathed. Remember not to drink and drive in Italy, which is difficult when there is good wine at such reasonable prices!
