What I take these days in order of preference are - Euros, ATM card(s), Travellers Cheques.
TCs are not quite so easy to change in Greece as Spain, still useful as a backup method though.

Hi Mike, You shouldn't have any problems changing sterling and travelers cheques in all but the smallest resorts, But ATM machines are few and far between and are pretty unreliable except in the capitol Argostoli.
