Cheers,
The rates look reasonable, do you have any experience of using them?
Keen to know what their insurance cover is like, doesn't seem clear on their website.

Anybody else used them?

Used them once, had no probs and they were a pleasure to deal with
Insurance isn't the best compared to other firms, windows, tyres, cd etc not covered
Do a search via button at top of this page for Hiper to see what others think

Avis have a base at Alcudia port, but after a quick random comparison (put in 2 dates on Hiper and Avis sites and compared prices, not scientific but worked for me) Avis were far more expensive

Cheers,

Will probably give them try.

Carrentals.co.uk warns of hire car shortage

Carrentals.co.uk is warning of a shortage of hire cars this summer as suppliers run out of stock.

The car hire comparison site is urging British travellers to book early for the summer after a number of suppliers sold out in key locations over half term and Easter.

It claimed the problem was particularly bad in popular locations such as Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Faro.

Managing director Gareth Robinson said: "Demand in certain locations has exceeded supply this year. A number of car hire suppliers have held their stock levels because of the economic climate, but with many people still travelling some are being caught out."

We are hoping to rent a 7 seater when we arrive at Palma airport for 2 weeks.
I know various companies have various prices, but can someone give me a rough idea of prices im looking at please?

Thankyou

Hardly any cars available on the doyouspain.com website for next month except the bigger and more expensive ones. Auriga Crown don't have any cars available to book in July or August at all according to their website. I booked my car hire for the last two weeks of July at the end of last year with them via Doyouspain, but it's pay on arrival at the airport so I hope there won't be a problem getting one when we turn up as that would be a really bad start to the holiday. :(

Oh crikey ! I have just received an email from DoYouSpain.com informing me that AurigaCrown are in serious trouble and have cancelled my car hire booking. We are due to fly out in 4 days so hardly any time to get sorted with another car. Not only that but where there are some cars available, they are charging hundreds of pounds more for the hire now. I have been quoted £800 for 13 days economy car hire which is ridiculous. I think I am going to have forget hiring a car now and try and arrange some shuttle transport to Camp de Mar where we are staying.

Hmmmm ! I really don't get why we are not allowed to post even an excerpt from genuine emails as proof of what we are saying. No matter. I had absolutely no luck finding another available car at such short notice and have had to book a transfer with Janerbus instead. I hope no one else on this forum is affected by the problems at Auriga Crown. I booked the car as long ago as Decmber last year.

Hi Robbo .. the contents of the email were already pretty well summarised in your own words. However, some follow up discussion and further email excerpts (not by you) contained potentially libelous comments about the current status of Auriga Crown. To protect our legal interests, those comments and the content of both emails were removed.

But unfortunately you are not the only member to receive an email saying that your Auriga Crown car hire booking has been cancelled.

Hello!

Ive been researching a lot of the links on this thread and am starting to panic slightly - Carjet for example only have a few of the more expensive models available and they are very pricy.

We are looking to hire from Palma from 14 - 21 August and although we have had no problems when using Carjet in the past I didnt like the idea of them charging for the full tank of petrol which you didnt get credit for when leaving it back. As we are only using it for a week I would prefer to just pay for what I use!

Anyone recommend an efficient company? Also Im a bit confused about Excess now - do they debit your account on the first day with the excess amount - this happened to us in Glasgow the other week and it emptied our bank account for a few days! Any advice would be very greatfully received.

Other than hertz, avis and alike the rest are usually no excess. They nearly all charge for fuel now but autosroig don't but can be expensive, though everyone is expensive at the moment! good luck

Tootsie,

Try Netto - a local company. http://www.nettocar.net

We have used them and whilst perhaps the car is not as new as some of the big national companies they can sometimes be a fair amount cheaper. They also have the option of returning the car with the same amount of fuel in as when you picked it up.

Thanks Pippa! (and thanks for the info on the pm)

We have organised the Janerbus to take us to and from the airport and are going to look into local companies in Alcudia when we get there - the "bigger" companies have nothing left for next Friday! :yikes

We used a family run car hire company this year called pujolrentacar (you'll have to Google that because I'm unable to put links on here because of my low post count) Ask for Susi
Great company. We had a mid sized car for just over 200 euros for the week all inclusive (peak season). No extra petrol fees/ripoffs (you return it with the same amount) no added hidden fees plus they met us at the airport so we didn't have the usual horrendous queues you get sorting out the paperwork in arrivals.
Another thing I noticed is they will accept cash - you don't need a credit card. I used a credit card though.
On return you just park it in the car park and lock the keys in the boot.

Since the problems with my car hire booking with Auriga Crown being cancelled only 4 days before my holiday last month, I have read on other forums similar experiences that other customers have had. It appears that booking agents Carjet.com also used Auriga Crown as the car hire suppliers at some of their Spanish destinations and their customer services department had told a Carjet customer whose car hire had been cancelled at short notice, that they had had 350 bookings cancelled by Auriga Crown over the summer period. :yikes

There is a further story from BBC News today about the car hire shortage problem and the reasons behind it, etc., ... please click here.

Has any member had any recent problems hiring a car in Majorca or finding that any size cars are not available,I want to book a diy holiday that needs a car to make it work economicaly.Or has any members had good expierence of car hire from the airport and what company was used.

Shrimper - if you read right through the thread you will see that its a big problem at the minute.

We couldnt get a car to hire for love nor money from the airport the other week (we were also DIY).

We ended up booking the Janerbus to and from our resort and we found car hire plentiful (and cheaper) in the actual resort.

Details on the Janerbus are on the taxis/fares thread.

Hi, I am new here, I was told about this site by a friend who is a manager for a well known travel agent, My questions is : Has anyone had any recent dealings with terry car hire or car jet?, I only have a debit card and have received quotes from both companies, car jet being the cheaper, I go on the 15 October to Cala Bona, I have booked with ulookubook they added transfers but I have decided to hire a car instead.
Any help would be appreciated :)
