Think it really makes a difference if you use a holdall that doesn't weigh anything to start with.

It really does make a difference to the weight I recently went to Goa on 15kgs using a very lightweight roll along bag, I think it was 1.5 kgs and I managed perfectly well , as I used up my toiletries and suncream while I was over there , this freed up a little weight to bring a few goodies home
I am off to Bali in a few weeks and I am also on 15kgs and I know it will be enough

Well done indeed Juby. A lightweight case is a great help. Mine's a proper trolley case but only just over 3kg which cost about £12 from Tesco a couple of years ago and is easy to pull along. I don't know how people manage with the heavy solid cases now that the airlines are getting so stingy with the luggage allowance. I bought the Balanza luggage scales from Argos this year which set my mind at rest. Coming home a couple of weeks ago quite a few people at the hotel were borrowing it to check their cases.

We're off to Spain on Monday for a week and I finished packing earlier We're flying Easyjet and as I had to pay for luggage I opted for just 20kg between us. The packing didn't take too long and then it was the dreaded time to put the case on the scales.

On they went and .........27KG I told hubby 'no way that's right, try it again'........27Kg I said 'I've never had that much in one case before and it doesn't feel anywhere near that weight, try again' .......This time 17.8KG-That's more like it. So I made hubby try it twice again just in case and yes indeed it was 17.8Kgs so I don't know what went wrong the first two times.

I'm a happy bunny now although I've got all our shoes, the iron, hairdryer and some cardigans in our hand luggage.

My case always feels as if it weighs more than it actually does so I'm just glad to have the scales. Have a great holiday Shirley and remember you have almost 3kg free for all those souvenirs, and that's before you take into account the weight of the stuff you will have used up in the resort.

I remember a few years back we went on a Rocky Mountain tour and Alaskan cruise. One couple on the tour shopped till they dropped in every port. When we got to the airport to come home everyone was asked to weigh their luggage before check in. Thiers was massivly over weight (to no-one's surprise except them). So they had to re-pack everything while in the check-in queue re-distributing stuff between cases, stuffing their pockets, putting on extra clothes, asking friends if they had any spare weight. It was very funny. We all helped by offering to drink the several bottle of vodka they had bought duty free on the ship but they didn't seem to need that sort of help

Way to go For my last holiday when I actually flew, I bought a new lightweight case as my older one is quite heavy, which is a good start to have a lightweight one.

I have also got to the point with easyjet that I book one suitcase, per two people flying, although am often only going for a week. So in effect 10 kgs each plus a max sized hand luggage each and we have managed fine and still can come back with things unworn. I guess it's because if you are on a beach/pool holiday you often only need swimwear and sarongs during the day so that keeps the weight down, plus buying toiletries airside in Boots can help.

I havnt even booked my EJ cases yet and we go next week .. We will need 5 because of all the dive bags that travel with us now but I never book them until a night or two before so I can be more sure of whats needed and incase something goes wrong and we need to cancel .. you wont get the money back for your cases if you do and as the cost is the same I wait .

I remember the days when we used to lug huge suitcases weighing the max on holiday , shoes for every outfit, large bottles of toiletries etc., I don't think I could even lift a big case from the carousel these days.
Years of travelling on my own though changed me and I've learned to travel as light as possible. When OH and I went to South Africa last month one holdall weighed 13 Kilo and the other 8kilo. The heavier one contained a bag of clothes to give away to a charity and even though I bought a couple of souveniers coming back the bags weighed just 11kg and 8kg.

I'm off to Spain next month and for the first time I've paid to up my 15 kgs allowance to 20 kgs.
Normally 15 kgs would be ample for me and the same for the OH, but we intend to bring back plenty of ciggies from our visits to Spain this year and build up our supply to take us both through from one year to the next.
Boy George can go weep over a pasty that I'm not putting more money than I have to in his pocket, and I'd write a letter of complaint about the amount of tax he's taking from a packet of ciggies, but I can't afford the stamp and I've no petrol in the car to take a trip down to London to see him.
In fact, seeing as South Yorkshire is now offically in a drought, I'm thinking of stocking up on bottled water from Spain too.

If anyone is looking for new lightweight cases i can recommend Aerolite Paris collection.They only weigh 2.4kg and are more solid than the Sub0G cases.
We bought them from a Clarks shoe shop on a retail park and on a recent 2 week holiday we managed with 13kg each.
They have 4 wheels so easy to manoeuvre.

Oh Sanji, change your destination to Tunisia, though they have put their cigarette prices up to around £1.50 a packet I've started stocking up on stamps though, especially as Superdrug has 5% off 1st class (every little helps). I'll stock up on 2nd class before the end of April as I use them far more than 1st. Could anyone please explain the logic to me? Stamp prices are high so people stop posting letters etc but if they increase prices they think they will get more revenue. Does it not occur to them that even less letters will be posted? I've now gone very much so I've slapped myself on the wrist and will go and have a cup of tea (and a cigarette)
