I was wondering if anybody has got any prices for summer 2010 holidays yet?
We always book up one year in advance to take advantage of best prices/free child places etc as we have to travel in school holidays. Last month we registered with Direct Holidays to receive a phone call for summer 2010 prices and availability before they go on general sale. We received that phone call today and were shocked at how much their prices have gone up. We (2 adults and 2 children) priced up a few hotels for both may half term week and our main july/august holiday and on average, compared to this years holidays, their prices have gone up by around £300 for may week and £500/600 for july/august. Now I know the tour operators will get charged in Euros and that the exchange rate is poor at the moment, but given the current economic climate, you would imagine they(tour operators and hotels) would be trying to attract customers not put people off. I have been closely following the current thread " quiet in tenerife south" (without comment!) and I must stress that some prices I was quoted today were for other destinations, after I was shocked by the tenerife prices, and they were equally as expensive, so these price rises cannot be blamed on greedy hoteliers in tenerife. Also, the exchange rate is currently improving and is forecasted to slowly improve over the coming months, so surely they cannot blame it on this???
One example I was quoted was for the hotel bahia principe and I was told that there was no free child places. Now Direct Holidays have always given free child places to this hotel in the summer season, so is this just another way of making customers pay more?? It may be that I'm unfortunate and they've stopped the free child places during school holidays?
I hope all of this is wrong and they've got their pricing system wrong, but somehow I fear not. I look forward to hearing from anybody else that's had any quotes.
P.S. The reason I've posted this on the tenerife forum is because tenerife is our favourite place and it's tenerife I've had most quotes for.
