That doesn't sound very dressed up
I wonder if our hilda will read this thread!
Hub always wears long trousers to dinner (we're usually HB in the hotel) and a smart polo shirt or short sleeved shirt.
I like to dress up a bit but am conscious of being short and rotund
then (segueing into the what do you do in the evenings thread) we change back into our shorts etc. (harem pants for me) and go out for a walk along the sea front to make the most of our destination
Just had a conversation with my mum the other day about this. She said that when she was on holiday in Benidorm she saw lots of adults and kids in the dining room who looked as if they had just come up from lying at the pool as they had their shorts and t shirts on.I told her that we,that is my wife and 2 kids aged 7 + 12 as well as myself have a set routine where we go to the room at approx. 7pm and have baths etc and get changed into our clothes for the night and then go to the dining room for our evening meal.We then head out to the town or stay in the hotel to enjoy the entertainment. We do like to make an effort to get dreesed up but nothing over the top.
By the end of a day round the pool or the beach, I feel very dusty & sweaty. I really couldn't entertain the idea of walking into a restaurant & eating dinner like that!
I usually dress up to go out of an evening, but admit I have been out and about late in shorts
and t-shirt, hair like a burst mattress and no make up!
But in my defence, this has only happened when we were just supposed to be just "nipping"
somewhere before going back to our accomodation to get showered, changed etc, but got
"distracted" on the way!
Oh no, when I've been out of a night in my daywear (shorts etc) I've never just come off the beach or from
by the pool. (I don't have the energy to go anywhere other than shower and bed for a couple of hours when
I have been lounging around - being lazy makes you soooo tired doesn't it? )
We've normally had a lie in / late morning, ate lunch out and then decided to nip to the shops for some
presents/shopping before going to the pool but got side tracked,
(One of the good/bad things about going to the same place for years and years - every time you go anywhere
you meet someone you know - and it'd be rude not to be sociable wouldn't it? )
Thankfully this has only ever happened once, maybe twice during our holiday - and never every holiday.
I love dressing up to go out, as I don't go out much at home other than family/friends functions etc.
(My choice - not chained to the sink or anything! )
When we stayed at a hotel in Benidorm they had a very strict dress code in the restaurant, which was
really good. (No shorts / hats / swimwear etc).
But I have to say, I was shocked/disguisted by the amount (and the age) of some people who
tried their best to flout the rukes each day.
But each day the Maitre D sent them packing! Good man!
Love to dress smart in the evenings. Take time to get ready with make-up and co-ordinating jewellery. I normally wear a different 'outfit' every night but with reduced luggage allowance this year I'm doubling up on a few dresses. Hubby, on the other hand likes to be clean but more casual. A couple of the restaurants have got a dress code and I know now, he's not loking forward to wearing long trousers. To him a holiday is shorts/3/4 trousers. He will draw the line at wearing a tie though, in the heat of the Caribbean and I can't say I blame him.
Same here! Retired from bars and clubs a few years ago and my nights out nowadays are usually a few drinks at a friend's house, or a meal out or work's xmas do!Milly_Molly wrote:I love dressing up to go out, as I don't go out much at home
I love getting dressed up for my evenings on holiday! I make sure I take different sets of jewellery (Primark) to match different outfits and even with the reduced luggage allowances nowadays I still manage to put together a different outfit every night. I'm not really one for heels, (and they're heavy in the suitcase anyway) so I look for pretty flip-flops (again Primark) which would be too nice for the beach; and I always like to have a nice handbag - this has to be big enough to hold my camera and small camcorder to catch those unexpected karoake/hypnotist/audience-particpation moments Also, I always have to straighten my hair and put on full make-up. Went away at Easter, myself and two teenage girls - you can imagine the bathroom arguments between 6-8pm every evening!
