How easy is it to get a taxi and back from Protaras to any cheap supermarkets in the area and can anyone name any good ones?

Dead easy. Taxis all over the place in Protaras.
Nearest (cheapest taxi fare) is Orphanides. They will probably even wait outside while you do your shopping if they haven't got another fare lined up.

It would depend on how much shopping you were going to do to make it worth while getting a taxi or not.
Orphandies on the edge of Paralimni is a long walk (and a killer in the middle of summer) but a taxi is going to cost you ? (I'd guess €5 at least).. but there is a bus service and a bus stop just opposite.
If you are only talking getting some bottles of water, bread and milk then you might as well just use one of the large minimarts in Protaras...
