emmaevans80,

You'll find flight prices fluctuate almost on a daily basis. They are up and down subject to demand. If there's a particular flight you want, the best thing to do it keep watching and once you see a price you're happy to pay, book it. The trick is not to look again afterwards just in case it's dropped further!! The main thing is you are happy with the price you've paid and you get the flight you want. If you leave it too long, the flight may become full or if demand is strong, the price can actually increase as seats get booked. It can work the other way too if demand is week.

you are right there Darren

we have been travelling independently for about 13 years now and I always fall into the trap of looking at flights after booking :cry

Emma , there is no hard and fast rule now, it used to be that the flightonly prices were released at the end of May for the following years summer season and the best prices were as soon as they were released but now they use complicated 'yield-management' software that constantly tweaks the rates to reflect the demand as Darren points out.

Its a case of many hours surfing then when you find something you are happy with just book and look forward to your holiday.

hope this helps
