Excellent Lyn. Though I have to say that I wouldn't like to be in your shoes, paying for 4 adults and a child. Thank goodness it's just me and OH now :duh
Have a great time!!

Thanks girls . I'm still a bit shell shocked at what I've done TBH . The price had gone up after I was going to book a few weeks ago but having never been long haul was worrying about long flights and jetlag . Anyway I was gutted that I didnt book when I had the opportunity but carried on reading the reviews and forums etc . This morning the price went back down a bit and they also agreed to another £200 extra "clincher" off .

I'm still a bit concerned because hubby wanted to have a break from A/I next year and I havnt told him yet. :yikes

Its illegal for travel agent to tie taking out their insurance to any booking.

Yes Cant think....we know this but she still tried to push it....my hubby popped back in after making the booking with TC( because they were going to ring us when her boss came back from lunch) and she said oh my boss has rang me and you can have it without ins.....too late love. Hubby told her that is was illegal and against the rules but she wouldn`t have it..the young girl was not too amused at losing a sale..but they shouldn`t try to rip people off and i would have booked with them no problem.

I have the 4 adult prices and luckly not the extra child, when it comes to price its a killer, nothing decent below £3500. Couple of years ago the hemera for 4 adults and a child with portland 25th aug 14 nights £2700.

This happened to us in First Choice on Saturday. We booked for 4 adults going to Egypt next May.
The manager (who we know ) came up and asked girl if she had asked us about insurance to which she replied yes that we were getting our own. She said that they were being told by those in charge at head office that they weren't selling enough insurance.
She actually phoned me on wednesday and asked me to take proof in that i had insurance. I told her i wasn't happy about the hassle and she said that since being merged with Thomsons this is what they have to do.
They also admit that they cannot compete with other insurance companies.

Its bang out of order...by all means ask us if we would like any but when we refuse they shouldn`t use it as a pawn to enable us to get price matches from them, which they advertise in the windows. I have no sympathy for them, if we can find our own cheaper ins then surely to god they can too then provide us with it???

I use Direct Travel Insurance 2 adults and 2 kids (kids are free with 2 adults) gold insurance with them to Crete for 2 weeks is only £25.00 compared to Thomas Cook/Direct Hols is in and around £100.00.

Sounds like a brilliant deal Lyn, as although I dont particularly want to book at the moment and have been checking prices for 2 adults and 2 teens so in effect 4 x adult prices and cant find much I like under 5K :yikes if I want to go AI.

Trouble is I have people who having done 4 AI's on the trot (well 3 and a full board plus :rofl jsut incase I get told of for calling Lykia AI) want to do something different. So I may have to wait and see how this Villa with a pool thing goes this year.

Think you need to pick your moment to tell your hubbie, I would be scrapping mine back of the ceiling if I just mention 'Oh by the way I have booked a 4.5K holiday. :rofl

:cheers

Told him last night and he was fine :) . He normally prefers if I dont tell him the cost so that wasnt the problem . It was more the worry that he wanted to do something different or at least somewhere different which this will be .

He also likes to have plenty going on and didnt really fancy a villa . What he had in mind was something similar to an a/I hotel with all the goings on but on a SC basis so we could go out and eat . I tried to explain to him that an apartment complex or hotel like that would still cost a fortune and we would probably need 3K spending money with teens out to 3am every night on the beer which we would need to budget for and to eat out for lunch and dinner . I dont drink but he knocks a good few back . more in the daytime .

The following year I cant really see the older 2 coming with us again so then it would be easier to do something different . That's my excuse anyway :rofl

ive been waiting for cosmos to put their short haul 2010 hols online as i have some tesco clubcard vouchers which i wanted to use against a holiday. they've just started putting them on and i dont think i will bother !!!!!! Just priced one in turkey and it comes up as £766 per person while Portland have got exactly the same one at £533 :yikes Usually we go in May but seeing as i have a new boss who isnt as lenient as my last one i'm not allowed to go in may anymore and am looking for july :( Thought i might get a good deal by using the clubcard vouchers, obviously not !!! How can one company charge so much more for exactly the same thing ? It looks like i will be staying at home next Year !!! :( i think the only way to get the prices down is to refuse to book with these companies

I would hold on if I was you becauae cosmos / monarch don't go on sale until 16th July and i can't find any 2010 holidays and I have searched all regions and can't get one 2010 holiday to come up, she it wasn't 2009 what came up.

i'm in a dilemma,
should i book now or wait and see if prices come down around christmas time.
problem is i usually pay for 3 adults and get a child free place, and as the free child places go quick that is why i book early.
however for holiday 2010 oldest daughter is not coming and youngest daughter will be 13 (no free child place)in most hotels so i will be booking for 3 adults.so i,m thinking whats the hurry as the prices for next year for 3 are more expensive for this year for 4.
i have seen some hols that are ok but nothing jumps out at me that is great unless they are very expensive.
i'm not used to this waiting game i normally book straight away.
so do you think prices will drop later in the year?
regards tracey

Hi Tracey,
same here. I don't like waiting but this year's prices have been up, down and back up again. So hoping next year's will come down at some point. It's a risk isn't it - Just trying to 'catch' a good price.

I have the same problem with my daughter now 13, Last year we had a week in Turkey AI for £660 with portland as daughter was free. The same hotel, same week, this year £1330.00 !!!!! :yikes I know some people pay alot more than that every year but i cant afford it so we will be staying in the UK next year, even some of their prices are over £1000 !!! but haven have got a half price offer on for next year. Looks like i will be leaving foriegn holidays till Daughter is old enough to not want to come anymore.
