we have just booked our first diy holiday, can anybody give me any advice as to who i can take my travel insurance outwith that would cover everything i would need covering. we have booked flights with thomson and our accommodation is a private rental.

Also, it's worth checking with your bank account provider as often they provide free travel insurance for you and partner/family if you have certain bank accounts. Several of Lloyds bank current accounts get automatic travel insurance included in the account. Well it's not actually free as you pay a monthly fee for the account but get a variety of entitlements.
