Finally a topic which i can speak freely upon.
My mother and father have a villa in the North just NE of Famagusta and although i have only been there a few times i believe that i am a reliable source. The place is an absolute gem there are other things i can talk about but the one i wish to let you know of is....
If you go to Famagusta and see the medievel walled city take a look inside and try to find the Turkish Bath Bar. The original building is not just intact but stunning. The place was quiet when we arrived as being late april the season (if you can say it has one) had not yet started. As i looked up above my head i saw ornate arched stonemasonry which was beautifully preserved.
The bar was run by a nice bloke called "Barry" although i'm sure that was not his real name! after the initial shock of seeing englishmen in the bar the locals swarmed round us and engaged us in very informative conversation about the country and places to see, this also included other establishments that were family run.
We were treated to a grand tour of the many caverns which made up the turkish bath, you wont believe it until you see it. You could easily see this as the location for the next Tom Hanks movie as it would not have been out of place in The Davinci Code, the history comes alive.
Barry was kind enough to keep music to our tastes, whatever that was and if he didn't have it on his itunes play list he just bought it!
After we had consumed our body weight in EFES pilsner and had a great night we were concerned as to what time the bar closed, to which Barry replied "What time are you leaving". Some sceptics may be thinking that the bill would be inflated or that he had an another motive but plain and simply the Turkish Cypriots in general are very nice people. The bill was £30 for about as many litres!
We had a great time it is a must
