Hi Helen, We have been to Alcudia and other resorts The best beach we think is Palma Nova, and you will find that it will be just fine for the children and no Mossies , Dont be put of just because it is next to Magaluf, infact we are off Tuesday 07.00 but this time we are off to Can Pastilla, Sue

I agree. Palma Nova is lovely. There is a lot going on in the day and evening if you want it.
It is close to Palma and Santa Ponsa (bus rides away) and the transfer times are minimal.

oooo sorry to disagree but if its beaches and children I would have to say Alcudia beach is well nigh perfect...........miles long....very calm.......little fish swimming round your feet..........you can wade out for half an hour and still not be out of your depth - perfect for small children.

It can be very busy but if you dont mind walking there are quieter parts.

Saying that I would say the beach at Can Pastilla would be up there also, as would Cala Millor! (though is not as big!).

The mossies can be a problem in Alcudia but some parts are worse than others - the Bellevue area is bad due to being near the lake.......however I found the apartment complexes away from the canals etc were fine......we didnt get bitten at all.

To sum up if you are REALLY concerned about the mossies and want a good beach go for either Can Pastilla or Cala Millor...just my opinion!

Hi the best beach is alucdia it goes on for miles,you can walk from the start of the beach along the sea and it willl take you to the port,
It is a lovely walk i am going this year but unfortunately wont be able to walk on the beach, as i am now in a wheelchair,but they is a path that also runs along the beach for people with prams and wheeelchairs, so i can still go to the beach its huge

really cheap and effective method is to apply lemon juice to your skin, you know the jif ones that you can buy in the yellow lemon shaped bottle. this does not smell, it is not sticky and is cheap!
The reason that female mosquitos bite is the attracting smell and taste of the skin, they tend to bite when they are in the mating period! Therefore if you apply a bad tasting cover to the skin they will reject this and find someone else to bite! Normally the mosquitos come out during the evening, normally after sunset etc, so make sure you buy a liquid plug for your room and turn this on when you leave for dinner, leave a window or shutter open so that they can fly out, these plugs do not kill the insects they repell them, so they need an escape route as such.
Make sure that you buy an antihistime cream in Mallorca for the bites as the composition is more effective for the insects here rather than the uk, be careful taking any tablets and drinking as this is similiar to overdosing.
I am sure you will be fine and make sure you don't scratch any bites as they will scar.

The mozzis are not too bad this year in Alcudia, I live here and have seen a huge difference.
The worst affected areas are near the lakes and canals or the marsh lands near the Bellevue for example.

Take my advise a jiff lemon is a wonderful deterent.

Was in majorca last year in puerta pollensa that has a long beautiful beach of soft golden sand.. Went to alcudia beach and it was rock hard almost like cement, it was like it had been steam rolled flat with 20% cement thrown in. Looked good till you went on it then my family found it disappointing??

We are just back from Playa De Muro area, just 20 minutes walk outside Alcudia. The beech is excellent and clean as so was the Muro area. Beech 100 times better than Palma.

I was really worreid out the mossies before I went, but was ok, came back with less than Plama Nova. I used a roll on kids repellant down my arms, leg and forehead on me and my son and were fine, showered in lemon shower gel, don't know if that actually works.

The reps had said is was really hot so there is not alot of mossies around but did not want to chanc it as I had watched Sun, Sea & AE at the Muro hospital and seen some of the bites on some people.

Think any of the beech around the west side are ok, been to Sa Coma, Cala Millor, Port of Alcudia and Muro area.

Sa Coma has a beautiful beach and its close proximity to Cala Millor, Cala Bona and S'illot mean you don't have to be stuck in one place!
