Flight Only / Airline and Airports

Discussions relating to flight only, airlines and airports.

I've been through the bag drop at Stansted, and it's not much different from check in as each flight has its own bag drop. There are check-in terminals in the Ryanair area of the airport, but you need to make sure that you arrive before the online check in procedure closes - see website!

There can be long lines for these bag drops, so DO give yourself enough time - I would still recommend 2 hours at Stansted because you still need to go through security, which can be slow, especially if you have to take your shoes off.

Remember the ONE hand bag has to contain laptops, duty-free purchases and one's handbag (if a lady) and snacks/reading material/umbrella etc. The gate staff are very strict about this!!!! (Nice little earner for them or M.O'Sneery!)

Hi
Just flew to girona from Leeds via Ryanir - just had to write to say how annoyed I was. I crammed everything into one bag for my hand luggage but both ways nobody checked what hand luggage everybody had and looking around people were being let on board with 2 bags or more and their hand luggage was bigger than my case. I know it sounds like sour grapes but if there is going to be a rule lets stick to it....

Hi Michelle

Couldn't agree more - it hack's me off too.
Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of seeing somebody refused boarding because of it yet but I live in hope.
I won't take the risk because if I was oversize/weight, that would be the flight they would check :(
Then they would send you to check in the bag at huge cost but you cannot as check-in has closed. You lose your flight.........

Just been checking prices and Ryanair have again got an offer of £1 e/w including taxes. Only extra is the £5 e/w for booking with a debit or credit card. I've got in quick and booked a flight from Stansted to Billund for next March. No doubt they've got plenty more routes so you could get a bargain.

You could have even saved the £5.00 with an Electron Card :)

I know, but unfortunately I don't have one. I did, however, get a voucher for £10 off my next booking with one little click of the mouse. :tup

Ryanair have announced 39 new routes to/from the Canary Islands (including Gran Canaria and Lanzarote) this winter from various UK airports. More details on their website.

I am so confused about the baggage allowance!
Can anyone help in plain English? (Do not send me a link to Ryanair as that confuses me more!)
There are 6 of us travelling (2 adults,4 children!)so I thought I'd just book 3 Suitcases for us!
I am worried that this will not be enough as I just read something about 15kg which doesnt seem a lot!

If I am correct and you only book and pay for 3 suitcase between the lot of you you will only get 15kgs x 3. I wouldn't have thought that would be enough for 2 adults and 4 children.

My suitcases also seem too big to hold such a lightweight!! I will be packing more air than clothing it seems!
Our plan was to only take about a weeks worth of stuff as there is a washer/dryer in our apartment but even that's going to be heavy!
I know you can take 10kg each on board but I just wish it was all in suitcases as I dont want to be carrying things really.

razza923,

Welcome onboard :tup
LPL-PSA (FR9626) was operated by EI-DPR on 30th July.

Be very careful because if you go over 15k, you could be charged 10 euros per kilo so probably better to pay for another case. That way, you can relax more.
Otherwise, wear your heavier clothes on the flight and put other heavy stuff such as shoes in your flight bags. Seems a bit daft really that a hold suitcase can only weigh more than 5k than a flight bag!
You do see a lots of travellers with really big flight bags on wheels coming onto the plane (to save paying for hold luggage/
short breaks/ having to wait at for ages to reclaim their cases) but they do take up a lot of room so I am sure that one day the Companies will tighten up on them too.

I'll try to put it as simply as possible.

Each passenger using Ryanair is allowed to take one piece of handluggage - restricted dimensions and a maximum weight of 10 kg. Every passenger is entitled to take ONE piece of hold baggage weighing up to 15 kg. If you decide to use your entitlement, you will pay the a fee for your baggage (they will say its for putting the case in the hold).

Each person has the entitlement to their one bag weighing a max of 15 kgs. (For which they pay!)

You are not allowed to combine anyone else's allowance ie put two adults worth of clothes in one bag and say that it can weigh 30 kg because it contains two persons allowances. IF you combine two persons' clothes and bits in one bag, the total weight for that bag may still not exceed 15 kg, even if the contents are for more than one person.

So you are entitled to 6 bags of hold baggage each one weighing a maximum of 15 kg (and having paid Ryanair a fee for each piece of baggage handled) and 6 bags to go in the cabin, each bag being of specific dimensions and weighing less than 10 kg.

Note that if any hold bag weighs over 15 kg, a punitive excess baggage charge must be paid, based on the number of kilos over 15 that the bag weighs. Cabin baggage is often checked by putting it into a container of the maximum size to check the dimensions, and can be weighed at security or even at the gate if the staff think it's over the maximum 10 kg allowed.

I note that your party is two adults and four children, so you could of course take 6 hold bags as the allowance for your party .......... Ryanair does not (as yet!) specify that each passenger has to be able to carry their own case, so a parent can carry two cases or pile a trolley high with them to get to check-in/bag drop and from the baggage carousel to the airport exit. Note that the handling charge fee is per bag, regardless of whether it 'belongs' to an adult or a child.

You are right that 15kg does not seem a lot - your case could well weigh 3 or 4 kilos !!!
We use holdalls as a rule - maybe less than 1kg each.

How about buying the kids a small wheeled case each for their own clothes - lots of patterns and styles out there, get's them a bit more involved. Our kids felt very important the first time we did this then they all turned into teenagers :(

As I booked our holiday in January we are able to book in on line or at the airport. Could anyone please advise me which way they think is the best, quickest and more likely to result in us getting on our flight. We are flying from Stansted to Perpignan on 16th August and have speedy boarding. Does anyone know any more details about the cancelled flights on Saturday 1st? Any help would be appreciated.
