Hello everyone,
first of all..very nice forum, really helpful members as I could notice.
I am traveling to Corfu at the end of August and it will be my first time on the island. We are traveling by car so I would like to see most of the island's beaches and architecture..actually everything that is worth to be seen.
What would be the best place to find accommodation in order to be in good position to travel around the island?
We do not have any accommodation booked so we will look for apartments right on the spot. We look for a studio or apartment for 4 people (two couples) with separate rooms. Any suggestions?
Can you please name some beaches, places, architecture that is a "must see"? we have ten days so its plenty of time to see most of the interesting places on the island. We are not too interested in nightlife, like clubbing and stuff...restaurant recommendations are welcomed though.
I am a photographer so interested maybe in some nice spots to take pictures of..time of the day to go there maybe etc.
Any other suggestions are welcomed since I want to know everything I need to know for Corfu.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
I would assume you will be coming on to Corfu by ferry to Kerkira [Corfu town] in which case it would be an ideal starting point as it is fairly central see road map
I'm not an expert on the island of Kerkira [corfu] so i will let our more experienced members give further guidance

I have just added a week in Corfu to our cruise which begins and ends there (we depart 7th august). Tried many websites for accommodation and really struggled (admittedly we wanted a 2 bed apt with air conditioning and a pool). Luckily for me my friend is over there this week and managed to sort me out in the apartments where she is staying....but it certainly was'nt as easy as I thought to get last minute accomodation.

I liked driving out towards Ano Korakiana (google a Corfu map).
The back streets of Corfu old town are well worth a wander with a camera in hand too (early evening for a bit cooler time).
It's a lot of island to cover in some ways, due to the shape and roads, so your best bet might be to stay near to Corfu Town (from where thre's your main east-west route) and strike out driving in a different direction each day for a few days.

It is a quiet resort with enough small restaurants and tavernas but not much nightlife ( no clubs or live music bars). The lovely countryside of hills, fields and olive groves is good for walking and the huge sandy beach has plenty of room.
There are many beautiful places to see nearby including Afionas, Paleokastritsa, and the cliffs of Cape Drastis all less than an hour by car. In fact Corfu is so small that you can reach any part in a couple of hours.
One MUST VISIT place for photographers is Dionysos Restaurant high on the cliffs at Afionas (5 minutes by car) especially during the middle-of-the-day hours when the sun is high in the sky showing the lovely colours of the sea. Afionas is also a great place for sunsets.
You might be a bit late to find accommodation available but you can try Yiannis Apartments which are situated in a quiet road about 10 minutes walk from the beach. There are 3 apartments and 2 studios in lovely gardens.
If you telephone Yiannis he might have an apartment (2 bedrooms) available. The contact details are on the Yiannisplace Internet site.
We stay there and they are very nice, clean and quiet.
I can recommend the north-west coast for nice scenery with some great viewpoints. We stay at Agios Georgios north which is supposed to have good light for photographs.
