Baldur will tell you that where his village is it is cheaper again. Locals wouldn't dream of paying what tourists pay in the resorts.
Very true. I put 10 x 500ml bottles of Kamenitza behind the bar at the village Cafe-Bar last September for my Bulgarian neighbour (who had mown my grass and wouldn't even let me pay for the petrol that he'd used). The Total cost was around 9 Leva - about €4.50. Draught beer is cheaper still.
Even in the city of Dobrich, the most which I paid for a large beer in quite 'upmarket' restaurants & bistros was around 1.40-1.60 Leva (€0.70-€0.80), while a large draught beer could be obtained at a sladkarnitsa (sort of cafe/cake shop) for 50 Stotinki (€0.25).
A bottle of 'Sophia' red wine from local supermarkets was around 1.80 Leva (€0.90) but the same bottle would cost you 9 Leva (€4.50) in a fairly cheap bar/restaurant in the resort of Albena. 2 litre polybottles of lager from supermarkets, e.g. 'Ariana', were 1.90-2.10 Leva (€0.95-€1.05) in local stores.
