I don't mind a few short, sharp showers but don't want to it to be constantly windy or raining.

This will very much depend on which part of the island you are going to and the path of any tropical storms that develop. You could easily experience all three situations within the same holiday!

This summer, I was there in July for nearly 3 weeks and experienced the following weather conditions:

Havana: Hot and sunny but increasingly humid as each day wore on - no rain.

Trinidad: Hot and sunny but increasingly humid as each day wore on - a short sharp shower one early evening

Las Terrazas: Hot and sunny but increasingly humid and overcast as the day wore on culminating in thunder and lightening storm with strong wind and heavy rain every evening between 5.30 and 6.30pm with accompanying drop in temperatures during storm but then warm muggy nights after the storm passed.

Barracoa: Hot and sunny but increasingly humid as each day wore on - no rain but a strong breeze throughout the day and evening.

Santiago: Hot and sunny but increasingly humid and overcast as each day wore on - no rain.

Varadero: Hot and sunny but increasingly humid as each day wore on, overcast in the early evening - strong but warm breeze on beach, no rain during the day but rain overnight.

We went to the Guardalavaca region which is the other end of Cuba from Varadero. :)

Thanks Poley that's good to know. I'm intending to price Cuba up at weekend (along with our 2 choice of Malaysia) but was a bit worried as some tours ops such as Thomson/Thomas Cook didn't have any hols in June so think we'll have to go for the more specialist operators (especially as we want a tour)

Hi
New to this forum and hope to pick up lots of tips and ideas.

We are going to Iberostar Tainos 11th June 2010 for 2 weeks flying out of Manchester with Thomas Cook. Booked 5 weeks ago costing up £950 which includes premium seats and seat allocation on plane.

1st time to Cuba so excited. The only thing at the mo bothering me are the mozzies as I am a human buffet for them. :yikes

ps............ its my late 60th birthday holiday so celebrations will be the norm

lol

Happy holidays all

:cheers

regarding mozzies, i too am a magnet for them, but we went in May this year and i didn't get one bite. I was warned by friends before we went so bought some REPEL 50 from towsure camping shop. you can get it online, no difference in price than boots or autan, in fact slightly cheaper and it works, i've bought some more in prep for cuba next may just in case. you'll love it, the people are so friendly, we actually preferred it to mexico the year before, only downside was the initial thought of not having proper coca cola or branded spirits, but it wasn't a problem. :cheers

We went to the Iberostar varadero last year for my cousins wedding, it was the best holiday ever! but I think we were lucky, we went in September, just after the hurricanes hit, we were not sure until the night before we flew, if everthing was ok with our hotel etc, but when we got there, everything was just great. This year we are going to Playa Pesquero, Holguin(next week) another group of around 20 of us, should be fun but I think as far as hurricanes/tropical storms are concerned, its just pot luck. Yes they say the most likely times are june- sept but nothing this year:). Have a good holiday!

Thanks Evo - good to know we've picked the right hotel.

June should be fine - real time to avoid for hurricanes is August/Sept!

Going to Varadero in June. Last time we went was September 2008 with Hurricane Hannah AND Hurricane Ike. Oh the joys :-S . Wasn't really that bad because the fabulous people of Cuba made sure WE the tourists were ok BEFORE they saw to their families. What did spoil it were the drunk russians who insisted on going to the pool when Ike was in full force. Trees were being blown down and windows smashed but still they drank and put themselves AND the hotel staff at risk. Thankfully the hotel staff managed to get them out of the pool and into their rooms but not until after a couple of broken bones. Must congratulate the militia for their rapid appearance. Not advisable to upset them I assure you.
