I also like the sound of Roda which is close to Acharavi where we stayed many years ago. Sidari sounds a bit like Stalis on Crete but it might be more 'british' which I know you wouldn't like.
I'd be interested to see what you fancy.
Arillas is a quiet resort on the north west coast of Corfu with some nice low key bars, restaurants and accommodation.
I enjoyed Arillas. Found it nice and quiet, with a range of tavenas and a couple of bars. Some lovely scenery in the surrounding area too. A small and friendly place, and we found it very uncommercialised.
of the two, Roda is smaller, but livelier, British bars if you want them , but also lovely Greek restaurants in abundance.
Acharavi is a bigger resort, more Greek, no British bars and enough restaurants and tavernas on the beach and the main road to keep you amused for weeks! Plenty of touristy shops to browse in, supermarkets jewellers etc....and accesible to most other resorts on the North coast if you fancy a change of scenery (kassiopi is about 15 euro in a taxi)
(ps we are the same age as you, like a similar ambience to what you describe)

Thanks for your suggestions folks, but we have just booked Lassi in Kephalonia for next August. I still intend visiting Corfu in the near future so your suggestions have been really helpful.
