Rather like the sound of it myself
There are direct flights to Samos.
However, while we stayed in Pythogorian, but visited a resort called Kokkari. I thought Kokkari was lovely and had a great atmosphere at night time. Low key nightlife is the key in both resorts but Id definately recommend them both.
I stayed in Kokkari some years back and I thought it was lovely, a nice traditional little resort.
We stayed in Pythagorian, its one of the larger resorts but not over commercialised. As mentioned, good selection of tavernas around the harbour and a very long sandy beach stretching out beyond the airport. On another occasion we stayed one night in Psilli Ammos, very close to Turkey, while waiting for calm weather to cross to Patmos. Very small and quite 'Greek' with a lovely beach. Kokkari is the island wind surfing centre, very pretty at the harbour end but an exposed and often windy main beach
