We found the best way to use a card abroad was by getting a travel money card. We got ours from Caxton FX as it doesn't have any fee's for cash withdrawls and no fee's for using it as a mastercard. Today's rate is 1.074.
Otherwise, get onto moneysavingexpert.com and see what they suggest as the best place to get currency from.
Oh and when I looked the other day, for ordering currency, the best rate was from tesco (only onlne not in store), although they did have a small delivery charge if it's under £500 I think. Of course this could have changed by now!
Thanks.
In the past I have tended to exchange cash before travelling, but with the current rates, you have to shop around a bit more. Still pondering what to do.
To be honest, couple of cents one way or another won't exactly clear me out, but it's better in your pocket the theirs.
Get a Nationwide credit card you get the full visa rate with no charges for cash and purchases.

DO NOT use a credit card to withdraw cash. The interest rate is very high and you pay interest from the minute you withdraw the cash. Better to use a debit card.
luci
I use my flexaccount card for cash and the credit card for purchases.
Thanks for pointing this out.
I wondered if the exchange rate had improved over the past week.Has anybody in PDC noticed what rate the Indian shops are offering at the moment.
Anyone know what the exchange rate is at the moment over there. We're off next Sunday and will probably just take enough with us to pay for a taxi from the airport to PDC and then change our money there as we usually get a better rate.
Hiya, yesterday I noticed rates of 1.02 and 1.09 in Puerto del Carmen
Does anyone know if you can take Stirling into the Banca March and they will convert to Euros and place the money into a Banca March account?
Thanks
Can I use my bank of scotland visa electron card in atm`s in puerto del carmen ?
Yes but it will probably cost you a hefty fee, check with your bank. I'm sure you'll get the VISA exchange rate though, which is always better than the tourist rate.
Hi, Booked a barcelo hotel direct and need to pay 1220 euros on arrival. Which is the best way to pay. Debit card or Visa or even take the cash and exchange when we get there. Many thanks
The best is Nationwide visa or debit. The next best is usually to hunt around to change cash you often get a better rate than ordinary visa or debit.
can anyone tell me what rate Purto Del Carmen is giving at the moment please
That will probably depend on what and where you are changing.
changing sterling cash into euros wherever its the cheapest
When I went to work on Friday morning the exchange was 1.19 shorty!
cheers mad, thats better than here, I may wait to change it!
So it pays to check around...
Banca March certainly will change Sterling to euro but I would look at some of
the exchanges on the strip first, with any of the bank's there will normally be
a handling charge of at least 20euro...
