help too choose a resort pleaase?

hi,im new on here! have just returned from halkikidi and im interested in booking fot crete next year.We were going to try samos,but as we live right down in cornwall and from what i can gather,our nearest airport would be gatwick,which would be a complete no no for us! so we are looking at crete as we can go from our local airport.I am armed with brochures,but somebody recomended a hotel in kefalonia ,which we tried,and it was spot on.! so am trying to gather info! we are in our fourties,like everything but all inclusive! dont really like large hotels.A s long as its clean and comffy,in nice surroundings.A lso like to stay in a resort where its a nice beach(not too crowded ) with enough going on in eves not to be bored( although we will skip the nightclubs), some nice taverns and a few shops would suit us.W e would hire a car to explore if its not too busy! any help i would be grareful,thankyou tina.

HI Tina,
I'd like to recommend Stalis to you. Sis and I (with hubbies) stayed there last summer and had a really fab holiday. We are in our 40's and 50's and seem to like the same things as yourselves. Take a look at the Stalis resort reports on this site. We can particularly recommend the Socrates studios and apartments which are in an excellet position between Malia and Stalis. Again, take a look at my hotel review to give you an idea of what it was like. If you need any more info on Stalis or the Socrates don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Tina,
Stalis is fine as a place itself but it's just not in the most beautiful part of the island. If you want a combination of stunning mountain scenery, the best beaches (not too crowded), real Cretan life and loads to do then head west of Chania. The venetian port of Chania itself is unbeatable on the island and the area is tastefully developed. Have a look at pictures of Falasarna Beach, the Samaria Gorge and the harbour at Chania.....and up in the mountains it really remains unspoilt by the excesses of British tourism. Check it out. Those that discover the west of Crete find the real heart, soul and beauty of the island. I've been visiting all parts of Crete since the 1970's. It's a great island.

thanks for the info,sounds great,will start looking now! will give me something to do on the winter eves!!
