Hi, im hoping you can answer a few questions regarding australia and NZ. I am a student learning disability nurse and social worker (joint programme so i will be dual qualified) , and i would like to work in either australia or NZ once qualified.
Do these countries recognise learning disability nursing yet? or is it general nursing they are after? ideally i would like to use my nursing qualification, but as learning disability nursing and social work kind of overlaps, i would be happy to get a social work job.
I really cannt decide which country i would like to move to, but it wont be for another 10 years yet (i like to do lots of forward planning lol)
I think New Zealand are crying out for learning disability nurses at the moment.
thanks
nicola
Why not ask in the Australian an NZ embassies? If you are only looking to move in 10 years time though, don't bother to ask now as their favoured occupation lists change. I don't know how old you are but can't you get a working holiday visa in for OZ or NZ whist a student to see if you like it? (If I remember well they are available to students of all ages and to non students up to 28 years old). I ended up working for Ericcsons in Melbourne whilst on one of these visas and they offered to arrange full residency for me - if you have a skill that's needed , it's not uncommon.
