Hi Claire
I think your original plan not to book accommodation until nearer the time hoping prices would fall would possibly have been a good one if you weren't staying over Christmas and New Year.
That's probably why the hotel you looked at had trebled their rates - because they know they can!

Hope you get it sorted.

For the Sunset Hotel in Candolim e-mail FAO Tony Cardozo / Mabel Dsouza sun2set@sify.com
Now the season is getting going they should respond quickly, your budget should (fingers crossed) be okay for here.

Thanks to you both for the info. I could kick myself for not going with my instinct and sorting this out sooner!

Spike - the Sunset Beach was our first choice but it's now fully booked. Our second choice was the Seabreeze Sinquerim but they want 5000rs a night for the full duration which is way more than I think the hotel is worth! Good luck to them though.

The two that have got back to me today are Casa Sea Shell and Ruffles. I like the look of Ruffles but I'm struggling to find any reviews. If anyone has stayed at Ruffles I'd appreciate any comments. I really want to get something booked today if possible so I can stop stressing over it!

Hi Claire would not recommend Ruffles stayed there 2yrs ago booked a week and moved to the Phoenix Park after 1 night
rooms very basic, noisy from the bar in front, had a look at rooms in Casa sea shell and they looked nice not very big but ok
much better than Ruffles and they were spotless
hope this helps

Hi Claire im staying here in march http://www.sanfranciscoholidayhomes-goa.com/home1.html

I cant say what its like as ive not stayed there before but reviews seem good. Also Bruno replies very quickly and is very helpful.

Location wise its just across the main road from the whispering palms. Ive got a little map if you want it pm me.

Also Tony who owns sunset beach also owns rising waves and pretty petals i think so they might be worth a try.

My options are looking really limited now and I might have to start looking a bit further afield.

MazD - I've already contacted these but they are sold out for the dates I need which is a shame because they do look really nice.

aarond - thanks for your comments on Ruffles.

Hi Claire
That's so disappointing for you, I hope you manage to find something soon.

Have you decided against Ruffles?

There have been some positive reviews of Ruffles on other sites and I haven't ruled it out as yet. I'm still waiting for more emails from a few apartments and hotels so I'll wait to see what I get back. At least there's two potentially that I could pick from if everywhere else is full so I'm not stressing so much now!

All the rooms in the Casa Sea Shell are alway spotless.

Had a look around the new extenstion last year, really beautiful and beautiful
gardens.

Even if you are in the older block,( which will be cheapr) you have a balcony excellent service and spotlessly clean. If there is any problem, just see Willy the manager and it is sorted. As we were told ' if you don't tell us there is a
problem, we cannot put it right' :tup

Thats a massive price for the Seabreeze, but being that time of year I guess it's what you would expect. Had a look in and may possibly book this for March/April - was quoted 1500rps but expecting some Goan help from Ganesh to get the cost down. Good set up but rooms not brilliant but acceptable. I know quite a few who have stayed at Ruffles and don't have anything bad to say about it, I guess it could be a bit noisy as it is very popular, but this would only be from about 7pm to 11pm with the live music on.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for their comments. When I made contact with Casa Sea Shell they informed me that an AC room was only available for part of our stay and we'd have to change rooms during our holiday to a non-AC room. For that reason we have opted to give Ruffles a try and have reserved a room - I'll just make sure I pack the ear plugs!

One thing about the Casa is if you move rooms, they move you, you just go to the beach and everything will be taken to the new room, and placed EXACTLY as you left it in the old room - don't ask - if you have dropped anything on the floor that is where you will find it :rofl :rofl :rofl Can't fault them, for service or friendliness.

To the OP, why don't you change your habit of booking in advance and look around for accomadation once you arrive? It's much cheaper and there's plenty of choice. The Russians are all being herded into hotels by their charter companies. You can get a seaview, AC, fridge, TV, sea facing balcony, spotless room with en suite for 1,000R/- to 1500R/- (no pool but you can walk in and use nearby resort pools for 100Rs a day) A bit of shopping around and you will be able to get similar for 600R- a night.

It is the guest houses who are really going to suffer this year, and the long term full season villa/apartment rentals.
