We had a very good holiday in 2009 in Icmeler and have decided we are going back to Turkey for a holiday in 2010. Because of various factors we are looking to book for early March.
We have no children to worry about, just 2 adults who don't do sitting on the beach all day - we like to take trips and hire a car.
Which area of Turkey is likely to be the best for a holiday in early March and what sort of weather can we expect??
Dave
A lot of the smaller resorts don't start opening up until late April so you would need to look at somewhere that is a working town rather than just a summer resort. Bodrum is nice in March, fairly quiet but there are bars and restautrants open and it is nice to wander around without all the summer crowds. The weather is warm but not really hot enough for sunbathing and the evenings are still a bit chilly. The sea is freezing though!
You could hire a car and go exploring the Peninsula or you could take a trip to Ephesus.
I'm sure there are other places that would be ok that time of year too but I have only been to Bodrum in March.

what about going to istanbul, its a lovely city and lots to do and visit, ive been a few times and happy to help you with any suggestions, we have been to turkey a few times in march and the weather can be very hit and miss
How about Datca? Its a working town about 2 hours from Dalaman, if you hired a car that you picked up at the airport you could have a leisurely drive there, and the scenery is fantastic, especially on the road as you get near Datca where at one point the med is on one side and the Aegean the other. There are lots of lovely areas around the peninsula to explore by car, and you could probably do some great walking as well. You may also be able to get a ferry to a Greek island for a day, although you'd have to research that I don't know if they run at that time of year. Datca is not a commercialised resort, even in summer you don't get many Brits there, so if you're looking for somewhere authentic this is a good place.
Have to agree with other posters though the weather is very hit and miss, you could have a lot of rain at that time of year, and some days it could be quite chilly.

Thanks all. Our local kebab house is run by a couple of guys who moved over here from the Marmaris area of Turkey so when I went tonight I asked their opinion. They suggested the warmest area would be around Antalya but generally agreed with the above that the weather was hit and miss in early March. So we have decided the Canaries in March and will go to Turkey for 2 weeks in September.

Sounds like a good idea
I'd take a look at Egypt in March, temps in the high 20's and generally a better deal than the Canaries as you're out of the Eurozone.
If you want some relaxing time, try Nabq Bay, just a few miles from Sharm. Plenty of good quality AI hotels at reasonable prices.
