A topic that has been danced around before but has anyone experienced how strong the wind is, or not, in the Fanes area. We know that coast is more prone to wind but we are just trying to get a feel for how persistent or strong it normally is.
We are planning the summer holiday in August and have yet to explore the north west coast having been to the other side for the last two years.
We live on Rhodes in a village on the east of the island. Whenever we go to the west side the wind ALWAYS is blowing. My advise is continue to stay on the east. This does not prevent you exploring elsewhere.
Thanks for that. It is not that we are anti wind but if there is a stiff breeze blowing all 2 weeks it can get a bit tiring.
Maybe we will try Pefkos this year (Tsambika last year and Kalathos the year before) as it puts us another 20 minutes drive further south and a good setting off point for the west coast.
I personally would not recommend Fanes as there is not much of interest and the area is very quiet and unappealing. There are much better places elsewhere as you have probably already experienced during your previous visits.
Thanks for the advice. This is the first year we are able to holiday without kids so we are looking for peace and quiet.
Have now provisionally booked a villa outside Pefkos for August, plus hire car. At the moment I am sitting in the snow covered UK with the summer seemingly years away.
