You would really have to be to be very unfortunate to get caught out as the value of the item would be worth its weight in gold and the gems would still be gems unless was down right silly and thought that a piece of coloured glass looked like a gem stone

The value of gold and most gems are similar across the globe, it is the cost of the workmanship, the retailers mark up and overheads that are cheap in India.

If you have a piece of jewellery made in Goa and you like it, it will be priceless, if you don't like it or you are not happy with it in any way don't buy, particularly if it is your last day, leave it to next time

A few years ago there was a very famous chain of jewellers in the UK until the owner admitted he had only been selling rubbish for years and getting away with it and even at a good jewellers the item will only be worth only 25% of the asking price due to the high overheads here

Hi Meagain, I think we're talking about being conned into buying jewelery that's worthless. I have read a few stories on here as well as TA with regards to people buying jewelery (or having something made) & then having it valued in the UK to find that it's worthless.

Imagine paying £850 for a gold/diamond ring, & then finding out later that it was only gold plated.

Hi steps, I think also that we have to look at the other side of this discussion. Whilst you are correct that there are some disreputable Jewelers there are also some very good ones.

I know a number of people, myself included who have purchased items and had them valued to be far more than what they payed. Although if im happy with the item ive bought im not greedy and dont expect it to be worth loads more.

If im buying jewellry i do research it first no snap decisions. I then get recommendations from trusted people who have purchased in previous visits. (not someone who ive just met over a few beers ;) I tend to buy from the same jeweller.

At the end of the day there are good and bad everywhere and i think unfortunatly when brits fly on holiday a certain amount of common sense gets left at home. :duh Probably to many kingfishers :rofl
From walking down unlit roads at night to handing over large amounts of cash for items of dubious origins. Think about your purchases carefully and hopefully you will get a decent purchase. :tup
