I would not get to excited by this, the prices are just the same has yesterday and they never dropped when they said 20% off either! A friend and I both follow prices and it is just a gimmick!
I agree. Friends of ours are looking at coming away with us (we've already booked) so I have been checking the price every couple of days. Today it is £158 more than the day before yesterday!
There is so much smoke and mirrors involved in holiday pricing that it is hard to tell if these supposed discounts are genuine at the best of times. Holiday advertising/pricing certainly doesn't seem to be policed effectively and I've seen websites (including Thomas Cook) make claims such as "massive savings this weekend" and "guaranteed savings" whilst the price for a particular holiday has actually increased.
Personally I've been good and have now booked up my holidays for this year at prices I'm happy with.
Now we play the waiting game...
Cheers.
The prices for some holidays I have been watching have gone up since i posted earlier today!!!
There really ought to be some regulations that stop the tour operators making these wild claims!!
They are all do the clock ticking count down!! It makes people who do not follow the prices book I suppose!
I just wish I had a crystal ball to know when the right time to book is!!
I am usually lucky with my holidays but it is swings and roundabouts!
My holiday for summer is £620 more now with Thomson than Thomas Cook and the Thomsons flight is not from my airport of choice!
Thats funny as we have save 370.00 pound today from the catalogue price booking with this special offer? Have I not really saved any money then?
catalogue prices are a waste of time in my opinion as i don't think that any holiday that i hve looked at as soon as the brochure has come out is the same as the brochure when you cost it up, they are merely a guide and quite often inflated prices shown.
It may appear that you have saved but i doub't anyone has actually paid what the brochure has said, its like all these free child places, they are pretty much a s**m because whilst they say your child is free they then lump you with a huge under occupancy supplement which is basically the childs cost so in effect, you child isn't free, its a mere marketing ploy and is more physcological than anything as it makes people think they are getting something when infact when you look closely at the costing, you aren't.
cheers
If you kept up with on-line live prices you would see that the prices are no different today than yesterday when they had a count down till midnight with 20% off, today it is 25 % off but prices are the same!
Like I said one price has shot up today since this morning!
If I booked in a travel agents again I would pay more!
I book several holidays a year and always keep a check on what I have booked! My friend would confirm what I am saying because she is following prices to!
Also in some cases it is cheaper to book 3 adults than 2 adults and a child!!
Thomas Cook has reduced the prices of some of their flights though. I have been watching one particular flight for a while and the other day it dropped from £209 to £160 overnight so I booked it.
Jmk, That is great, but it is the package holidays that they are saying are 25% off.
They are advertising reductions on flights only as well and some of those do seem to have been reduced.
Its true about the free child places and bumping up the price in other ways. The holiday we have booked classes our 14 year old daughter as an adult and the room we wanted was for 3 adults. But it wouldn't put us in that room it was putting us in a family room (£200 more!). So I phoned and asked why and was told it was because we had a child. I asked him if she is classed as a child why am I not getting a free child place and being charged as an adult. His reply was that she was classed as an adult . I asked him how they could justify charging us adult price and then classing her as a child to get more money off us by putting us in the family room. He agreed that it was unfair and overroad it so that we had the room we wanted (saving £200).
Oh dear, it seems I'm very nieve when it comes to booking a holiday!! I'm learning alot here thank you
They are also offering a so called special offer on Turkey holidays for this weekend only. Reasonable deals although not necessarily better than previous offers.
I have been following a holiday I wanted to book (although it is in Mexico - not Turkey) The prices (online) have come down further this week due to their sale and is now £700 each cheaper!!! Went to TC shop and they gave us even more money off so well chuffed!
I agree with forrest22 on this one.We have booked holidays to Turkey with Direct Holidays in the past & they have worked out cheaper than Thomas Cooks, with a lower initial deposit, free in flight meals & an extra 5kg baggage allowance! They use the Thomas Cook flights & are always worth a look before booking.
