Football certainly.

Semi-professional stuff, Algarve Regional League

Our local team, Imortal Albufeira are at Ferreiras (2 miles away) in the Algarve League on the Saturday at 4pm. Important local derby, Ferreiras should be in the promotion race but we will be trying to avoid relegation. Admission €2,50. Kickoff will possibly be 3pm not 4pm so best check nearer the time.

National League

First Division (same league as Benfica etc)

Olhanense v Maritimo probably on Sunday 18th at 4pm but as in UK games are changed for TV purposes 4 weeks or so prior to the event.

Olhao is the other side of Faro and you would need transport to get there and back as by bus/train on Sundays it is a difficult journey. You won't have a problem getting in, as Olhanense are struggling and their last home game was watched by a crowd of 2507. Admission I think is 23 Euros for non-members.

Second and Third Divisions - all the Algarve teams are away that weekend.

Fourth Division (actually called Division III F)

This is played in two phases so we don't yet know who will be playing whom in the second phase which starts in late March. However Farense (the team of Faro) plays some of its games in the Algarve Stadium (the one used in Euro 2004) which might be worth a trip. Own transport essential. Also in this division are Quarteira and Lagos. Fixtures due out around 20 March.

Bullfights are on a Friday evening in Albufeira but I don't know if the season starts as early as April 16.

You can of course watch all the English games on TV as almost all the bars run by ex-pats have Sky TV.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info.

The bullfighting season doesn't start until May or June and ends in October

They say in Spain they kill the bull, in Portugal they kill the mother in law :que I will be taking the mother in law there this year.

Bill.

Olhanense need all the support they can get at the moment in their first season in the big league, they are struggling down the bottom with small crowds and limited resources.

However if you can a Portuguese equivalent of the UK football pools they are draw specialists drawing something like 10 games already this season.

Enjoy the match...Support your local side!!

You will find very much that the Algarve is much like the UK where everybody supports Sporting or Benfica and not the local side.

I assume you a Griffin park regular with your user name, good on ya!.

To Brentford rule - I don't play golf but there are numerous courses in the area. Most hire clubs.

There's a good source of information at http://www.algarvegolf.net
