After a bit of advice for a friend

Hello, i am after a bit of advice for my friends.

They are planning a wedding, and did want to get married in Spain, but it seems rather difficult for foreign nationals to get married over there.
Which is the reason they have chosen Rome.

They are Catholic, and their UK church said that they can fill in most of the paper work here in the UK with the church, then the church will send it to Rome.

I am after a bit of advice regarding where to stay in Rome, and will there be any suitable transport to get them from the hotel to the church in Rome?
They dont want anything expensive, just a low key wedding really, im sure theyd settle for a taxi

As you may have figured, im helping my friend to organise the finer details, as she doesnt like using internet chatrooms like this - not sure why, as its been of a great benefit to me this past few years.

They would also like to go on from Rome after a few days to a type of 'beach resort'. Are there any of these in Italy? I have never been before, so i have very limited knowledge.

With regards to the geography parts of this..

..when their church said they'd send paperwork to Rome did they mean "head office"? Do they actually want to get married in Rome, or even Vatican City, or does that follow on from what was said about the paperwork? For instance if they wanted Venice the paperwork would probably go via an office in Rome.

Italy being long and narrow must have Europe's highest proportion of beaches to land area and there are loads of places, Rome itself isn't far from the sea and Leonardo Do Vinci airport is almost on the coast. For properly organised resports as twin centre with Rome possibly somewhere just past Naples like Sorrento or Amalfi?? That combination ought to be available off the shelf in the brochures of tour operators who do Italy.

Hi,

Yes they are looking at getting married in Rome, they are trying to find an english speaking catholic chruch in Rome at the moment.

They quite like the look of Sorrento, i told them to have a look on thomsonholidays website and they have said that sorrento appeals to them.

They will have a toddler with them, as she is pregnant at the moment, but they arent too bothered about the hillside location.

Google is your friend. Google this 'english speaking churches in rome' Result = hundreds

Book the church then the hotel. Also hundreds of hotels.

Try to aim for central Rome to cut down on the travelling. Rome is walkable but Vatican City can be quite a way off if you stay around the Coliseum area.

Point them to http://www.citalia.com who are long standing specialists for travel to Italy. These days they are part of TUI so are closely related to Thomson but have a wider range. They have a wedding section on their site but they only do civil ceremonies conducted in Italian which sounds like exactly the wrong thing in this case!
