Hi fredthe dog
Things will have started to quieten down a fair bit by then... some of the shacks and restaurants will have closed but others will still be open for a week or so perhaps longer .. .. (sorry dont know about Bobbys) but a lot will also depend on how many people are about..and its already quiet this year.... Also its very hot/humid then so a lot avoid coming so late.... last year was quiet at that time... a lot had closed but as i say it just depends... local restaurants will still be open whatever and some tourist places too
I am sure you will still have a great time and enjoy it :tup

Thanks Chilly - I am not surprised it is quiet this year - the tour ops have cut the flights but put up the prices up. As an example the Highland hotel is still showing with some Tour Ops at £766.00 for the 15th April - which is an absolutely stupid price! Anyway I am sure we will be fine and as the weather is so bad in the UK there may be a mad rush out. Can't wait for any type of heat even hot and humid will be great!

:yikes thats crazy!!! did you consider just getting the charter flight and then booking somewhere for yourself to stay here (either before leaving or on arrival) as have seen some cheap (er) flights online than that (charter flight only not accom)

Anyway its academic now .... and yes you will still LOVE it ... warm, sunny blue skies, cheap meals & drinks ..less crowded.... bliss!! especially after all that snow and freezing weather brrr :D

We went in April last year, usually go January, but were meeting friends out there who getting one last trip in for the season.

We stayed at the Magnum in Candolim and were very dissapointed when on our last week they started clearing all the sun beds away from around the pool and only leaving 2 tables for breakfast as there were us and another couple left in the hotel.

Most of the shacks on the beach were being taken down if they had no customers, which was fasinating to see.

Alot of our usual eating places were closed for the whole of our 2 weeks, way too hot and humid for me and hubby in April.

I personally would not go again in April, but go and enjoy and let us know how it was when you get back.

oh dear we are at the Magnum too! Thanks for your note - don't like it mad but I really hope it is not too quiet. As long as there are a few shacks, bars and restauarants we will survive!

Chilly would be great if you could give us an idea of what is open then! I am hoping Bobby's Shack will be - am I think it will as it is one of the larger Shacks. Thank you so much - my husbands says I am worrying too much! I am glad to see we are not the only ones going as well -maybe we should have a meet up for the "last goers of the season to Goa" :think! It :duh is my theory that given that the weather in the UK has been so :yikes this year suddenly there will be a mad rush to get some sun! Except as I said before the tour ops are really hiking the prices this year!

Hi Fredthedog,
We went to Candolim right at the end of the season last year and a couple of years before as well. I would have preferred to have gone a bit earlier but my OH had work commitments and that was the only date that suited. This year we're going a bit earlier.
It was ok but a lot of the shacks were down and some of the restaurants were closed. We didn't really mind, we like it quiet and definitely enjoyed our holiday. There was still a good choice for places to eat. A lot of the chefs and waiters come from outside Goa and head back home around March/April. We found that it was hard to get tandoor dishes as the chefs had already left. I'm trying to think where Bobbys is. Is it near the beautiful River Princess? I know the last week there were very few shacks left up.
We go to Ganesh shack, just opposite the boat and he will definitely be open until the end.
The weaher was very hot and humid and I couldn't stick it without A/C
I'm sure you'll have a ball. Enjoy.

Thanks Gail - bobby's is just of the beach road - Spotty's to the left and Bobby's to the right - it is very popular so I think it will be open if not there is Ganesh's!

Got back Friday and all the shacks & restaurants were still going strong. The Nepalese departure seemed to begin on the 1st March but I'm told this is because the train back to Nepal gets very crowded and their departure is more to do with when they can get booked rather than how busy Goa is. Also I noticed far fewer russians after the 1st March.

We've been for the same 2 weeks as you are going (i.e. commencing 13/03) in previous years and haven't ever noticed any of the shacks closed or closing. In fact the only time I've noticed fewer shacks is if we go early November. I have no doubt that Bobby's will still be open whilst you are there as it is very popular.

We were in Candolim last April & it was crazy hot! You can normally count on there being a good breeze but there didnt seem to be a breath of wind. As previously mentioned it will be quieter, some shops had closed for the season & a few shacks were being taken down too. You will still have a great time, we rather liked the fact it was a bit quieter.

Have to agree there were not as many Russians this year in the second week of March.

I found our second week to be a bit sticky.More humidity and less of a breeze on the beach.

However if you like it hot you will be fine.

that's not a very nice thing to say Stark. I am one of the many going in april with hubby so just hope it doesn't kill us :yikes

By the way we are really really looking forward to our much deserved holiday in Goa this season and hope to see/meet plenty of HT'ers there.
