ok we still haven't decided where to go the only decision we have made is that it will be July or Aug
We want a resort that is lively with some sort of evening entertainment, whether it be british bars or hotels....would prefer somewhere that has a wider choice....don't mind walking.....as for accommodation...well we'll cross that bridge once we have a resort sorted....need help on this one as I'm totally in the dark

It's a few years since I was last in Tunisia and things might have changed in that time but if what you have in mind is the sort of thing that you would find in Spain on the Costas or Portugal in the Algarve then I think that you might be disappointed. I think that you're likely to find that most of the evening entertainment is hotel-based and that there are very few bars aimed at British visitors. You're best bet is likely to be somewhere like Port el Kantanoui.
SM
I would agree with SM, and speaking as a visitor to Port El Kantaoui the entertainment in resort is not lively and is mostly hotel based, there are only a couple of bars in PEK that are similar to what you are looking for and even they are quite low key compaired to places such as Spain, the Irish bar is the best although no Guinness

ok thanks ...maybe it's not our cuppa tea after all
The south of Hammamet has many late night bars and disco bars. Bars and clubs seem to come and go quickly, but some that have been around for a few years include the British Bar, London Pub and my favourite the Havana, where you get free bowls of popcorn with your drinks.
See: http://www.elpacha-club.com/havana/
and if you delete off the havana bit you can get a rough overview of the El Pacha Club which is next door and under the same management.
There's also Shakespeare's which, if I remember correctly, is run by a British / Tunisian couple (who used to run the Cheers bar at the Bel Air hotel).
If you don't like the look of any hotels in the south of Hammamet, don't worry as taxis won't set you back too much. However, if nightlife is your main focus, don't stay too far away and avoid the hotel strip north of the centre of Hammamet as traffic in August is hellish and you'll spend ages getting there and back.

I can only agree with what others have said , about night life being very low key . We stayed in PEK and used the Irish Pub every night to finish the evening off, which is open until the early hours .
