We have two nights to spend in Faro in August before moving onto Albufeira for a week. Originally we had planned just one night in Faro and were going to stay in the Monaco hotel near the airport. Now that we are staying two nights, We have been looking at hotels in Faro centre and also the beach, where we came upon Estalagem Aeromar.
Does anybody have any knowledge or reviews of this hotel and what staying on Faro beach might be like for a family with a 12 year old son? It's a toss of a coin between the Aeromar and the Eva hotel in Faro centre.

I would say for sure that two nights at Faro beach in August is infinitely preferable to two nights in the EVA hotel in the city centre. If you stayed at the EVA you would have to get the bus out to the beach, which is the other side of the airport several miles from the city.
The EVA hotel is right next to the marina and above the bus station in Faro, two minutes walk from the city centre shopping streets.
The only issue I can think of is getting from the hotel at Faro beach (Praia de Faro) to the airport. There's a bus about once an hour, taking 6 or 7 minutes to get there, or you can call a taxi.
There's not a great deal to do in Faro apart from go shopping.
I don't know the hotel itself, sorry.

Another "feature" of the Eva is the railway line running at the back.
I'd say the beach option is a better idea but bear in mind it is close to the airport so there will be noise, although I think night flights are not allowed.
