You can get all sorts of bags everywhere in Tunisia, including fakes, and prices vary considerably. Have a look in any of the fixed price shops to give you an idea of prices then take a wander through the medinas and the local streets and remember to haggle like mad. Start at about a third of what they quote - 'Gahli barcha' means 'too expensive'. I've been to Tunis a few times and visited the medina but Sousse is really my area,
Oh you will love Tunisia, bags, shoes, more bags and more shoes, remember haggle hard and be prepared to walk away, the seller will come after you.
really made my day with that photo. Can't wait to get there in September now
Just seen this thread and you have
You will be in handbag heaven, oh did I mention that there are shoe shops as well
Yay, I can feel the frissons of excitement coursing through me already
All I need to hear now is that they're really cheap
Sorry they are not cheap they are VERY cheap but ensure you haggle hard.
What are the shoes like - ethnic style or fairly European?
(I need to know so I can start saving.......and buy another suitcase.)
What are the shoes like - ethnic style or fairly European
Yes
In the Markets (Souks / Medina's) they are vey much ethnic however the main shops particularly in Sousse are more fashion European style, I am a bit vague here as I managed to steer my wife clear of them
We stayed in PEK & there shoes were mostly "ethnic", but there were quite a lot of leather flip flop type sandals too. My daughter had a gorgeous red leather handbag there - you can tell it's genuine by the smell. I think the shopkeeper wanted £50 to start with & she had it for £15 - I'm sure we'd have had it for £10 if we'd continued to haggle. In Sousse we found the "fixed price"shops quite expensive.
Flip flops are fine. Like bags, there's no limit to how many a girl can have
Fancy steering Mrs Kiltman clear of the shoes and bags.........does she know you did this??
She will never know..............I hope
