Well, I should be going today but we're here stuck at the airport, we're caught up in the volcano distruption, there's only our flight checking in, all other flights on the board are cancelled so we're still hopefull, although it says indefinate delay.

Not good news, we have been told to go home the flight has been cancelled so no Sharm El Sheikh for me this year. I'll have to have a look to see what I can book with my refund that will probably take ages to come through!!!

Good luck to anyone else travelling soon.

Flight cancellation update

Last updated: 16:00, 16 April 2010

We have been advised by NATS that air traffic control restrictions will be lifted in much of Scotland's airspace from 19:00 today. This area covers Scottish airports, Shetland, Orkney and Northern Ireland, and means North Atlantic traffic can operate to and from this airspace.

Glasgow Airport has handled a small number of scheduled and diverted flights today, and will continue to do so as long as weather conditions remain favourable. We have been working closely with our airline partners to identify opportunities to operate flights. Thomson, Flybe, Loganair, Icelandair and Aer Lingus have all reacted to the temporary lifting of restrictions please see their websites for details.

We continue to advise anyone hoping to fly today or tomorrow to contact their airline before travelling to the airport.

Restrictions preventing flights in controlled airspace over England and Wales will remain in place until at least 07:00 tomorrow. NATS will issue a further update at 20:30 today and they have stressed this situation is dynamic and subject to change.

We appreciate the patience of passengers at this difficult time, and we will continue to provide updates as often as possible.

Doesn't look like we will be flying on time on Sunday morning unless things get back to normal in the morning :rage

I'm back home now and unpacked, would rather be in Sharm but there is nothing anyone can do about it, just thought I'd let you know Newcastle Airport parking were great, they gave us a full refund on our pre-paid car parking even though our car was there for 2 days. The airport was deadly quiet, quite spooky really.

Hope everyone else gets away but Thomsons have cancelled Sundays flights now aswell.

I'll move over to the Corfu forum now, going there in 8 weeks.

Well me and my husband only get to holiday without our kids once every 2 years. We booked our trip 6 months ago after my mu in law died and our son was diagnosed with special needs. Boy did we need the holiday!

We arent supposed to fly till Tuesday but we have both accepted we arent going to be able to go [ unless a miricale happens] so we now are going to try and make a good situation out of a bad one by booking a weekend away, and asking for a refund from Thomson instead of changing the date as we arent in a position to do that.

At least we arent stuck somewhere with young children, lacking money, and so on, that would be worse!
