We are two adults + two teenagers (17,13). Last year we averaged £123 per day, we don't skimp while on holiday and tend to drink quite a lot. This also included 5 trips.

If you drink moderately and look for the set meal bargains I would say you could manage on £80 a day but I suggest a minimum of £100.

Kids pop is more expensive than beer in the bars, make sue you keep your fridge stocked up and when they want to have a drink they can get one from the room during the day.

There is a big water park on the Bodurm Peninsula. Where are you staying?

We were thinking maybe Icmeler or Olu Deniz. We want plenty to do during the day and at night and would like to visit any neighbouring places, and a good beach to go and relax. Any suggestions about both places much appreciated.

thanks

Icmeler is by far the better choice in my opinion. We holidayed in Marmaris last year and hated it but loved Icmeler. It is much quieter and laid back with better beaches but if you really want the brash in your face Blackpool style entertainment of Marmaris it is just a short dolmus ride away.
We found most food quite reasonably priced in the supermarkets so if you stick to the basics yuoou won't break the bank.
But do factor into your overall budget the local charges for air conditioning, for if your self-catering accommodation is anything like every other type of accommodation in Turkey you will be charged extra upon arrival for air conditioning, and prices can vary widely, but this can add significantly to your expenses.

Are there many places which are easy to visit from here either by booking trips or taking the bus, as we do like to visit a few places.
Also are the beaches here nice as have read a mixture of reviews about them. Does Icmeler have a large super market as we will be self catering and will be wanting to buy daily supplies. Any ideas of the prices of daily things like milk, bread, meats and cheeses etc.

got so many questions as have never been to turkey before, we usually go self catering to the canaries but have heard so many good things about turkey that i've convinced the hubby and kids to give it a go.

many thanks

You will find plenty of trips on offer in Icmeler, by boat, coach, or jeep, to nearby places of interest.
And also to Ephesus - outstanding ruins of an ancient Greek city, and Pamukkale - a natural wonder, where the entire landscape has been coated with a white calcium deposit - very strange. However, both Ephesus and Pamukkale are a few hours away by coach, but well worth a visit in my opinion.
Icmeler itself is a lovely little town, with good beaches, less shingly than Marmaris, and a natural park, consisting mainly of pine forests, surrounding it. I remember spotting supermarkets whenever we visited the town by dolmus, and there is a large outdoor market - I think every Wednesday.
Basic foodstuffs such as bread and milk etc. are quite cheap, but do check the prices on family favourites, certainly coffee is expensive but then you can take that from here in your luggage. Overall we found food in supermarkets in Turkey to be about as cheap as Asda or Tesco over here, but there is less variety and it is hard to tell what the discounted brands are. The most expensive item over there is alcohol but if you like a drink then I suggest you buy it from the supermarket rather than in bars.
There are many 'free' beaches in Icmeler where you get your sunloungers and umbrellas free of charge but the main hotel/bar that owns the beach will expect you to buy something from them i.e. a drink or ice cream etc., which is fair enough.
Enjoy.

Just to confirm what Ardath said, there is a large supermarket called Tansas, it is located on the main drag into Icmeler. You will get everything you need from here. Bread is one price wherever you buy it from, water is also very cheap, even in the local shops. Check out the produce on the weekly wednesday market which takes place up near Tansas, it is really cheap. Cheese and eggs are also really cheap on the market. Take cereals(very expensive in Turkey), tea and coffee.
