timj, no I don't work for AI travel - though that always seems to be the assumption whenever anyone tries to post offering a different opinion or sees the issue differently to the OP. I was responding because this particular forum is for people who are looking for advice on how to pursue a complaint and I thought I was helping with information on the grounds that I thought you could pursue this complaint on. If you were just wanting to warn others of your experience with A1 then it would be far better to do so in the Tour Operators/Travel Agents one.
As I now understand it, The Sunday Times had already got A1 travel to waive this charge for you completely so I'm not sure what your purpose was in posting here - you're complaint had already been dealt with. And that is information that others might have also found useful from the beginning because it establishes a precedent that they could have referred to if they found themselves in a similar situation. Yes, it's a shame that you had to go as far as involving The Sunday Times and that A1 didn't resolve your complaint to your satisfaction earlier but in the end A1 travel did do the right thing by you after all.

Does no one read posts properly.
At the end of the day if you had read my posts
again you havent seem to have read my last message.
If you had read my posts
I've read all your posts thoroughly, twice. It was quite difficult because I struggled to understand the stream of consciousness and lack of punctuation. However, as you were not clear the first two posts I came away with the same questions that SMa posed.
Now I realise that you are aren't actually asking for assistance, but just wanted a rant, and now you seem to be ranting at SMa as he / she doesn't agree with you. I bet he / she's wondering why she bothered.
do you work for A1 travel because you seem to keep missing the point.
- I got accused of that once. It was a real head in hands moment.
If you were just wanting to warn others of your experience with A1 then it would be far better to do so in the Tour Operators/Travel Agents one.
Apologies - I've just realised that you did so back in January, though it obviously still irks you so much that you have resurrected it here now.

Please note that I'm not nit-picking for the sake of it, but it is often hard and discouraging to read text posted in this manner, and can put people off making suggestions.
as this forum is primarily for help and advice, neither of which appears to be needed here, perhaps now is the best time to close this thread. Awaiting admin input to see if we will move to the TO/TA forum and re-open.
