Unfortunately, the images on Google Earth and Google Maps are dated September 2003! There's been a lot of changes since then!!

Ok cardiff lad, :rofl - and thanks im sure we'll be fine! ;)

Yes Marion i did notice that google earth was taken a few years ago - i know i was commenting about the Protaras water-park looking small on there (i dont know if it has expanded since) but ive also seen some pics which i believe were more recent where it also didn't look good. But even though google earth is a bit old its still handy to work out distances between hotel/Protaras main street/Ayia, etc! I was told our hotel was 'miles away from anywhere' by a work collegue who stayed in one near ours last year - after looking at google earth i now realise she was over-exagerating!

Does anyone know if google street view has visited cyprus yet - as its already up and running in lots of other places we've visited in Europe??! :que

The maps are so out of date that our apartment doesn't even appear on them. We have had it over five years now and it took about a year to build...and it's still a field on Googlemaps!

There is a Cypriot saying, "siga, siga" which translates as slowly, slowly - you may hear this a lot. I wouldn't expect streetview any time soon...

Really pubdog? Bet things have really changed in that time then! Makes it even more exciting!

Thanks for the map Askcy - it looks alot clearer image than the one i've been looking at on my Google Earth! p.s. im sure some of the photo's i've been looking at on various sites have been from someone with the same name as you - are they your pics by any chance?

Askcy is known for taking lots of photos, I am sure he won't disagree ;)

I've just added the "Point Bar and Restaurant" to the map (should be centre of it when you open this link)

(I've been taking pics of food since before it was trendy... lol )

Lovely food pics - would have like to have seen what the 'mashrooms' and 'hush brawns' looked like though :rofl

Thanks again for the map references. I want to try The Point restaurant too! I've always wondered exactly where everthing was in Pernera. So is that road (going from near Blue Spice restaurant to near Fresh House bar & restaurant) the main road of Pernera? And where would i find the main shops/supermarkets in Pernera? Would it be down this same street?

Thanks for your help :tup

Pernera is a tiny place really, but I always think of it as two slightly separate areas. It is all more or less joined up by that one main road you refer to, and this takes you from Blue Spice at one end, via the Shalimar Indian, past the Point and Speedy Gonzales, through past Knight's Bar and eventually to The Fresh House and Gordon Blue. I mention the latter as they were doing some very good 2 course meals for about 8 euros last year.

There are a few sidestreets to explore too with some hidden gems, but I'd suggest a stroll at dusk when its cooler and you'll soon get to know the place and map out your favourite places (and some of the bargains!).

I see Pernera as a triangle... sort of ..

The road that goes up from the Blue Spice (at the beach) passing the Elamaris, being onside,

Then the road that goes from the Blue Spice (at the beach) passing the Anastasia, Ausonia up to Chopsticks being the other and the top road between completing it... (well thats how I navigate around it... lol )

added some more points on the map including a shop or two... (not all with pics... yet)

Yes - good call Steve. I suppose my linear version is the beginner's version. The main thing is you can explore it a) without getting tired and b) without getting lost!

"Thankyou" Steve and Baggieboy once again for your help! At least i won't be going round in circles now (only triangles and 'D's) :rofl

Thankyou for all your help on Protaras/Pernera, but wondered if any of you can help me regarding Ayia Napa?

We would like to visit Ayia at least 2 or 3 times whilst on our holiday in Protaras. Maybe once for a few hours in the day, maybe once just for the night and maybe even a whole day there (from morning till night). We would like to visit a beach whilst there and im sure where ever we go in Ayia it won't be hard to find one, but i was wondering where there is alot of shops, cheap places to eat and possibly near the small fair.
When we catch the bus from Protaras, where do you think we should get off at (or any landmark to look out for) when we get into Ayia so we are near these amenities?

head to the centre of Napa look for the giant bungee.. you can see it for miles... Nissi Beach and its surroundings..... bus is fine during day but can get full late at night so you might want a taxi back...

bungee jump in Ayia Napa in distance to left of photo

The bus to Ayia Napa stops near the main square - everyone gets off there so just wait until everyone's getting up to get off. You'll find yourself near a monastry - well worth a look around and really peaceful. From there you can walk down to the beach (Nissi Beach is very good), or walk down and then right towards the fair. Again - you won't get lost - you'll always find your way back to the square.

As Steve says the fair has some fun rides, such as the bungee and there are plenty of reasonably priced places to eat around there.

Taxis are convenient but expensive - up to 20 euros to Protaras. I'd still recommend getting the bus back - they run quite late and as long as you get to the bus stop in good time you should get a seat.

The bus is 1.50 each way - however far you go.

Tip for eating, head up the side streets, as you'll find its a bit cheaper off the main drag.
