As much as i love my family and friends being on holiday with them would just be holiday hell for me, i think a holiday is to get away from the everyday way of life.
It's also just me and my wife now that our children have grown up. We had a couple of holidays in the last 15 years as a big family group with both my sister's families and our parents and enjoyed them but we have never been on holiday with friends. I guess I always worry that even though I enjoy our friend's company, being with them every day on holiday is a different thing altogether. I have had a few discussions at work on this subject and two of my colleagues actually said that by going on holiday with others they avoid having to spend hours alone in the company of their spouses! I don't think they were joking either. Others said that going on holiday with friends or family acts as a bit of a security blanket that made them less nervous about being in an unfamiliar foreign place. Whatever, as a couple who like the freedom to choose what we want to do on holiday and when, I think we will continue to keep friends and holidays separate for the foreseeable future.
Just OH and I. I wouldn't mind now and then if we went with friends but to OH that is a total no no. He hates soicalising with other people when he considers it 'our' time....or maybe it is 'me' time to him!!! We don't really get chatting to other people on holiday, very much keep ourselves to ourselves.
OH normally hates going on holiday but can sometimes be persuaded to take a short break once a year, we just returned from a week in Portugal but any more holidays for me this year will be either solo or with a girlfriend.
Have booked a villa - in a quiet spot but have got a car for 2 weeks so we will all get out and about.
