Thomas Cook flights to Punta Cana Downsized to smaller plane

Hi Everyone,

I have just heard today from Thomas Cook that our flight to Punta Cana has been downsized to a smaller plane due to Volcanic Dust???? They have told me the planes have to be mended and are being replaced! They now tell me that the plane we will be travelling on has NO seat back TV only gangway dropdown ones & also the advertised seat pitch is now 29" not 33".........All this sounds very fishy! Has anyone else had a call from TC to say this? I have a feeling that TC are using this Volcano as an excuse for downgrading the plane! I am now dreading the 9+hr flight with 2 young kids & a 6'+ Husband sqashed into a small place with no entertainment to keep them amused!

Rubyloo: I would look into this a bit further.

In my own opinion, our 5 hour flight to Cyprus last October on a TC "ordinary" plane for our 6' son was a nightmare; personally I would not be going that far on a plane that small. Have you checked the small print to see if they are allowed to do this? Also, on here there is a thread about the fact that TC have withdrawn their "upgrade" from long haul flights from April next year so I am wondering if this is the start of this happening.

We were in Mexico last month when the volcano erupted and First Choice/Thomson certainly had no problems with their planes and the dust so tend to agree with you; think this is TC pulling a fast one.
