I know this is a tad early to be worrying about it but whats the M25 like on a Friday afternoon? Busy!!! Yeah, i know that but what sort of extra time would people suggest. Here are the details of my holiday:
Flying from Gatwick
Flight leaves 8.55pm Friday 13th August.
I like to arrive at the airport 3 hours before.
I live in Swindon which should only take 2 hours from home to Gatwick.
I know you can't predict any major accidents etc but what are the average times on the M25, i'll be coming from the M4 anticlockwise to J8 on the M25 (unless anyone has a better idea?). I'm thinking of leaving at 3.00pm, hitting the M25 at 4.00ish???
Can't give advice on M25 BUT I always double my transfer time just in case , rather be really early than late. CBG
In our experience, the M25 is a nightmare on a Friday afternoon as everyone seems to be trying to leave London. I would try and hit the M25 before 3 if possible!
yes, and that time you'd be travelling would be classes as rush hour. If I where you, I'd leave plenty of time just in case. We do if we have to be somewhere by a certain time xx
Lots of roadworks on the M4 around Reading onwards in traffic wont get any better after that!!
Friday 13th Give it plenty of time!!
We are travelling down to Dover that day but plan to be on the M25 at noon ish. However when I went down to Heathrow at the weekend I noticed signs warning of future road works on the M25! I didn't see any specific dates though.
the anti clockwise stretch although busy isn't usually as bad as the clockwise section, but being forever the pessimist where the M25 is concerned, plus the M23 is another known accident area, I would probably leave a bit earlier and find an all day pub in one of the nearby villages and have a meal and drink a it is usually better food and cheaper than the airport

real time events are dispalyed at http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic/traffic.aspx - guess what, it's Friday, it's 17:30 and the M25 anticlockwise has 20 min delays due to a breakdown!
Highways Agency current and planned (for about 3 months in advance) roadworks and closures information is at real time events are dispalyed at http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic/traffic.aspx - guess what, it's Friday, it's 17:30 and the M25 anticlockwise has 20 min delays due to a breakdown!
We've used that highways agency website before when we went away for the Bank holiday and had to get onto the M1 via the M25 on a Friday afternoon. It was very accurate . Everyone was saying the roads and M25 were gridlocked but a check on there told us things were unusually fine for us . We jumped in the car straight away and bingo not a sign of traffic the whole way .
