I have recevied this email; today from the owners of the apartment we are due to rent over new year. I already have my flights booked and paid for, odes anyone have any ideas on were I can look for another property were this wont be an issue, preferably in the candolim area, or does anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening has this been an issue before
" We have recently received information originally disseminated by the Indian Government regarding the renting of properties in their country.
Apparently the government are now opposed to foreigners purchasing properties let alone renting them out.
Unfortunately the police are now involved and as a result they have visited many complexes in Goa including Regal Palms, and have threatened to remove guests from properties they are renting.
This is an ongoing problem and we have been informed that we should refrain from renting the apartment with immediate effect.
I offer my sincere apologies, but I'm sure you appreciate I would not want to put you in a predicament such as this.

They are sending me my deposit back so I am starting to look for somewhere else, just a bit conscious the same will happen again !
Lou why dont you look for an apartment owned by an Indian person surely there wont be a problem then, Gel
Yes thats what I was going to do - not really sure where to start though any idea ? or does anyone have any recomendations for me !!!
I've just pm you. Gel
the prices they are charging is like a years wages (indian) for a couple of weeks rental.
hardly surprising they are being hammered.
I prob should have thought along these lines before I booked - If anyone can recomend me anyone esle to contact for an apartment to rent in the candolim area for 3 weeks 26/12 I would be really grateful
Easy way around this problem, is not to rent of your friend, but to stay there free of charge and say you are family or friends and come to some arrangement regarding payments, same as a bar without a liquor license can get around the law by inviting people in for a party or family and friends and give the booze away, so to speak, stupid indian laws, need some stupid british response, just my opinion.
Take a look here, good set up and great location.
