Money will be very tight as I have M.E. and we only have one wage coming in and as it will probably be our only holiday for a few more years we really want it to be special, although I know we won't be getting luxury on our budget lol!.
The last place we visited was Portinatx in Ibiza 2005 (the Presidente Hotel) and we loved it, the beach and sea were perfect but my fiancée would have preferred there to be a bit more to see and a few more choices for local food, this time we fancy a Greek island but are not sure where?
The most important aspects for us both have got to be:
- nice soft sandy beach
calm clear sea (I spend most of my time in the sea relaxing, floating and snorkelling and OH like to sunbathe/read)
A good selection of cafes/Tavernas/restaurants serving decent local food (yummy!)
Not masses of steps or steep hills (Cardiac Hill in Portinatx almost killed me lol)
If self catering not too expensive to eat out
Peaceful but not dead
Preferably somewhere with a low deposit where we can pay in instalments!
I've been looking on Thomson's website and prices seem to be around £1200ish all in for half board, I'd prefer self catering as we like to try different palaces to eat out but would be worried about money not going far enough if that makes sense? We are not big drinkers but like to relax with a few after a nice meal. We are in our 30's & 40's so are looking for low key nightlife and places free from larger louts (recalls Aspo Kavos in 2004 with a shudder!)
A rough estimate for spending money for both self catering and half board would be fantastic too if anyone has an idea? We usually have a full english breakfast in the morning with a small snack later in the afternoon followed by a single course meal with a few drinks in the evening (OH likes greek beer ) and we like to do at least one boat trip (usually paid for locally not through tour ops).
Am I asking the impossible? I hope not I'm looking forward to the wedding (been going to do it for the last 10 years ) and the holiday will be a very much needed bonus
