You need to research both flights and hotels and narrow both down in stages before booking either. Without the golf it would be easy on the internet as you could get the airline reservation in one Window and hotel in another and book almost simultaneously, add on gold packages may not be reservable like that but it's worth checking. In the end you'd probably be best booking the flight first, but only if you were also ready to book the hotel. Any hotel deposits or airline fares you pay would probably be non-refundable so don't book one without knowing what your next step will be.

I know the Vila Gale hotel group do hotel+golf packages, try http://www.vilagale.pt/pages/golfe/index.php?regiao=3 all the hotels listed on this page except the Santa Cruz and Cascais are along the Algarve. To get details of a package click on [pdf] next to the package name (clicking the name just highlights the hotels that use that package).

In most cases you'll also need to think about hire cars.

Overall it might be better just to buy a full package from a tour operator if you are not confident about doing all this.

Thanks for your time ..The reason i got asked is i book holidays for them all the time.And her hubby has just lost his father so she wants to send him on a 4/5 day break after everything thats happend (long story) .But i dont know the algarve at all never been but will take a look at what youve sent me and see what happens ....

A thought that occured to me was what would happen if she wasn't a player. I don't know much about golf but I do know there are usually at least 2 players so you'd need to check how/whether the hotel would fix up a partner for a lone player.

It may also be an idea to check the courses (the Vila Gale site kindly provides a list of names to match each hotel!) and see whether they allow people to play independently (ie not members and not packaged) and how much they charge for a round. If that was possible the hotel may be found much cheaper, look them up on Expedia and see how their prices compare with the "non-golfer" price in the package offer. If the golf could be done seperately then the rest of the holiday would be much easier to book.

That's a really useful site (and not just for the golf). With this help I think the best thing to do would be to book an ordinary package and then get the golf sorted out seperately - forget what I said about vila-gale packages!

I'm newly registered but have been a regular 'watcher' for some time. i'm a keen golfer and just wanted to suggest that you have a look at the Pestana website. They have some nice accommodation and own 4 golf courses around Carvoeiro and Alvor. You can book online with a credit card but do not actually pay for your accommodation until you depart. They usually have some good deals including golf. It's not difficult to book flights and there are plenty of transfer companies around to get you from airport to hotel. Your hotel can arrange golf transfers.
