They have just taken some sealed tins of cheese and jars, and more vacuum packed cheese all sealed by manufacturers (ie not from a market and wrapped themselves) all of it confiscated and a warning given.
This is done to protect the UK's food chain, not introducing and potential problems with virus/bacteria/disease that these items might carry.
Baring all this in mind how come I've seen Cheese, Sausages and I think sliced meat on sale around the "duty free" shopping in Larnaka airport ?
Does it not count because its all part of the EU ? If so does that mean all countries of the EU are exempt and don't have different diseases etc than any other country in the EU ?
If it is because its the EU, then what happens when another country joins the EU ? Do they have to sanitise the entire Country in one night to bring it upto spec ?
