We went to a wedding at the Excellence Riviera Cancun in April 2008. It's an adults only hotel with only 440 rooms so it's nice and quiet and just the place for a wedding, honeymoon or, anniversary. We enjoyed the resort so much that we returned in April 2009 and are off again this October.

It's an all inclusive resort with eight restaurants (Barcelona — Mediterranean restaurant, Toscana — fine Italian restaurant, Oregano Pizza e Pasta — casual pizzeria and trattoria, Agave — Mexican restaurant, Spice — Asian and Japanese restaurant, The Lobster House — lobster restaurant, The Grill — serving continental breakfast and casual àla carte lunch, a steakhouse serving àla carte dinner and Chez Isabelle — French restaurant), six pools and about 10 bars. The bars serve premium drinks so just specify your tipple.

my son attended a wedding at the Riu palace las Americas in Cancun and he thought the hotel was out of this world. I've seen the wedding pictures and the location is stunning. I haven't stayed there myself but have stayed in Riu hotels in various countries and their service is first class. It's a five star hotel with 24 hour AI.

Nothing against children (we have two adorable...er...moppets ourselves) but I would definitely go for an adults only hotel for a honeymoon.

Excellence resorts (as highlighted by pizzajohn) do look really nice and I also like the look of the El Dorado resorts which First Choice feature and they get terrific reviews. We picked some guests up on our airport coach a couple of years ago and they'd all had a fabulous time.
