Been to Orlando via Charlotte last two years and both times had to pick up luggage and re-check. It's no hassle just a short walk from baggage pick-up. Coming back it's been checked all the way through to Gatwick.

Going via Chicago is a whole different story though :(

You will clear immigration at Charlotte, pick up your luggage and go through Customs. You then take your luggage to the transfer area.

You're not checking it in as in going to a check in desk and standing in line. You just dump it either in the allocated area or on a belt.

On the way home, you won't see it until Gatwick.

I understand how you feel - we flew to Vegas with a plane change at Denver and were as nervous as kittens. It was really easy and smooth.
We went through passport control etc and then collected our cases.

We did buy some duty free in London which had to be put into our cases once we'd collected them at Denver - as they couldn't be carried on US planes. We just quickly opened them (the cases and not the bottles - lol) and made sure that the bottles were wrapped well in the cases. We then just passed them to another check in guy and waited for our plane.

Simple and straighforward.

It would be appreciated if you could post reviews of the hotels you stayed at on your trip.

Thanks.
