You could risk waiting until you get to New York and buy your coat there. Don't forget if you shop at places like Macy's to take your passport to the customer services department before you go shopping and you will get a very nice discount on your purchases! Can't remember how much, but I'm sure someone will tell you.

Hi Babs, thanks for the info I will definately be taking advantage of that!
For the coat though I would like to get one before, as we are travelling in December I will need a coat to wear to the airport and for when we get to the other end. Also we are going straight from New York to Cancun where its going to be hot so I need as little baggage as possible really... dont want to have to pack 2 coats as well as my shopping!

Don't know what type exactly you're looking for, but there's a few warm looking ones on the Debenhams site.

H & M have some really good stuff at great prices, or try zara..

TK Maxx have some great bargains.I got a lovely warm coat last year for £65, it can be a bit hit and miss what's in there when you go, but worth a look if you have a store near you. Good luck, hope you find what you want.
